Summer Kick-off

Kitchen Clambake

Memorial Day – a day to honor and remember those who gave their lives in service. It’s also the unofficial opening act of summer, yet today it’s raining and 56°.  As I think back, it’s often dreary and cold on this holiday, the main reason I no longer pack up the gang and head to the Vineyard—I have not-so-fond memories of foul weather gear worn at the beach and huddling around the fireplace.

Regardless of the weather, an extra day with my family is a blessing and to celebrate we’re going to have a sandless clambake in our kitchen.

  • Out here in fly-over country, we have grown accustomed to weather disappointments. In fact, we expect miserable weather and then are thrilled if it is not. We have learned it’s all a matter of lowering your expectations. : ) Pleased to report we have had gorgeous weather all weekend! To quote a friend, “Life is an outdoor sport ~ .”

  • P.S. I should have said first – thank you for the reminder about the true purpose of the holiday weekend – to take time out to visit graves, attend ceremonies, and remember.
