Heidi Carey Jewelry

The Perfect Choker

A few weeks ago I was introduced to California-based jewelry designer Heidi Carey and her collection of beautiful necklaces. The “bold yet classic” pieces are all made from semi-precious gemstones, which keeps them nicely priced. Over coffee I asked Heidi if she would make me a custom piece, a grey baroque pearl choker to wear with sweaters and tees—and, voilà—so simple and chic.

P.S. I spied baroque pearl chokers on the Sonia Rykiel SS18 runway…

  • Simple and chic indeed! The necklace looks lovely. There is nothing like pearls and I wish I found ways to wear mine more often. Though timeless, I feel the more classic pearl necklaces have been a bit out of style the past decade or so. It’s good to see you finding a chic
    way to wear pearls.

  • I love these! They are so “right” now. I can see a need for both colors!

  • I agree with the above comment regarding how pearls have been rather out of style in recent years. One of the things I always loved about a pearl necklace was that its appeal was a constant, it wasn’t a “style” thing. I love your choker and the grey color is beautiful.

  • Sadly, I agree with the view that the classic string of pearls seems out of favor. But that doesn’t keep me from wearing them – they still add light like nothing else in my jewelry drawer.

  • As someone who loves pearls but finds the classic pearl necklace a bit dull, I have to commend you on this choker — it’s both classic and contemporary. Enjoy!

  • Agree with all the previous comments. These look fun and flattering. Pearls have been out of favour which is a pity as the good ones throw such a beautiful glow.

  • Sophie Buhai’s new collection has a lot of pearls in it – both real and fake. There is even a rough pearl choker. I trust her instinct and design so I’d say pearls are coming back.
