Luggage Update
This picture of Vogue‘s Fashion Director Tonne Goodman is from a packing story that ran in the June 2007 issue, called “Fold Everything.” I was reminded of it as I’m starting to think beyond Christmas to a trip we are taking in early January. Like Tonne, I will do everything in my power to not check a bag. However, in 2018 I have far more electronics than the ones seen here, and that’s not including all the chargers. I, too, have used a Louis Vuitton rolling bag forever, but maybe this is an item that could be updated. My husband swears by Raden, the smart luggage with a TSA approved removable battery for a built in phone charger and weight sensor. And, since it’s sold on Amazon, I can get it before we go. As Vogue said “(t)his stylish smart luggage will completely change the way you travel.”

What's New
I love Corroon luggage. I have the grey Weekender roller and a duffle to match.
Look at Away’s carry on bag. It, too, has a TSA approved removable battery and the monogram choices are so fun!
I like Away, the “squish” capability is amazing (not sure we’ll ever see that in the marketing material). Can’t wait to hear about your trip, I’m still dithering over our destination this year, very peeved with myself.
I loved this article, I remember when it came out!!!! is it still online somewhere?
The luggage is very attractive . I have a question, is the carryall that appears to be brown and white and the handbag would they still be available ? Do you have source ? Thanks very much. Have a great trip.
The canvas tote is an Hermès Garden Party, there is one on The Real Real
Good point
The vuitton carry-on is so chic, and I always need a phone charger with me anyway so why duplicate with one built into the bag? This Smart Charger rapid-charges two items at a time, folds flat, and comes in three colors.
I work in public relations for a major airline. Please make sure you buy a carry-on that meets airline regulations (generally 45 linear inches) and if you buy a smart bag, make sure the battery is removable because after Jan. 15 bags without a removable battery cannot travel (safety precaution for if they have to be checked, which is also the norm on smaller regional aircraft). I use a Tumi rollaboard. Great quality and monogrammable. Safe and happy travels to everyone at this time of year!
Atlanta’s fiasco last weekend was a reminder to carry critical items with you in some sort of efficient carry on. Meds, water, chargers, and packaged snacks. I recently bought a new hard case check bag and a French-designed nylon tote. Both pieces had a significant positive impact on my travel. I not only looked more pulled together, I just felt better being prepared and organized. I plan to add a second/matching piece, a hard case carry on, but I actually prefer to check everything through, especially on direct flights.
Laurie – The tan bag was an old style tote made by Tods.
i loved that article when it came out in 2007 and its still spot on today!
i only travel with carry on! tonne is my packing inspiration and guru!
thank you for highlighting it once again! sally
Thanks very much for the information about the two bags.
I love my brown Rimowa and have a brown Carolina Herrera bag for extra carry on items, which my purse fits in also…(so carry on is pretty easy…so far)
