New Year's Eve

Looking Back on 2017

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who stopped by and weighed in with comments this past year—that interaction is the heartline of kic. Also, a huge thanks to the folks who participated in posts or allowed me to run their work as content. Here are a few of my favorites from 2017:

The White Jeans Series tops my list of favorite posts this year and I am grateful to the women who participated. Not only did they supply pictures of themselves, they wrote their own text, which made the posts so thoughtful.

There were a number of fantastic exhibitions, indie fashion stories, books, and new albums in 2017—great content.

The posts about packing, shopping responsibly, and recycling items in my closet keep my fashion compass in check.

And most importantly, the women I see on the street, on Instagram, and in my life are the real inspiration for kic.

I’d love to hear what you liked or would like to see more of in 2018. Wishing everyone a Happy New Year!

  • Happy new year, Preston. Keep on doing what you are already doing! Besides, the posts you mentioned, I always appreciate your current uniform posts and your book recommendations.

  • Happy new year Preston! Thank you for sharing your wonderful eye with us.
I’d love to see more posts about what you think makes a piece of clothing, bag, shoe, decor, art, etc. a good buy. So many “luxury” pieces now don’t have the quality they used to be known for, while some of the mass market brands have stepped up their game. I’m always curious about what to look for as a shopper (and observer, for that matter) in this evolving space.
I absolutely loved the White Jeans series and have been pleased to see you branch out with Palais.

  • In addition to your KIC fashion posts, I have also really enjoyed other topics you touch on…For example, love your posts suggesting ideas for hostess gifts, books, candles and homey things, music, travel ideas and I have even picked up a recipe or two. And movie suggestions. I always feel like I’m on the right track when I see we are looking forward to the same films. :). Cheers and Happy NYE everyone!

  • Happy New Years! KIC is a daily read for me – always look forward to your point of view!

  • Preston, your blog is such a pleasure. In addition to your well-chosen topics, the comments from your readers are worthwhile and fun! The great conversations you host here are one of the best uses of the computer/internet I can think of! In a world where everyone is talking and no one is listening, I think your blog successfully communicates and connects. Congratulations and thank you!

  • As always, I track with Paula!

  • Happy New Year Preston, thank you for a great read time and time again. I especially rely on your eye of what’s coming next in the fashion world and your features on stylemakers.

  • More of the same. Your blog is a source of constant inspiration for me in so many areas. I too, love the comments of your readers. Happiest of New Years to you and your beautiful family. xo

  • Happy New Year to you and yours Preston ❤️and also to the KiC community, I love reading what others have to say here.
I loved the White Jeans series, so maybe a similar format for classic pieces like trenches or totes. Gifting is a favourite topic and also you exploring that old chestnut of “shopping your own closet” so more of both would be great.
We share your sensibility that being chic is being mindful and thoughtful in all aspects of our lives and our creativity so carry on as you began (as my mother used to say) and we’ll be here with you.

  • Happy New Year
You are a daily read, thank you.
I love posts where you feature women & photos of their favourite things, makeup fragrance fashion & jewellery….

    SusanJanuary 1st, 2018  2:19 PM

  • Happy New Year! I love series about real women’s favorite basics, which is how I received the white jeans series. Perhaps one on black boots, white t-shirts, winter coats, trench coats or other basics.

  • Looking forward to 2018 with my favorite blog. I read your blog daily, and rely on your “my uniform” suggestions. Unlike fashion magazines that showcase ideas for a life I don’t lead, your blog is a real lifestyle inspiration.

    KimJanuary 1st, 2018  6:40 PM

  • I love everything you publish but really enjoyed your packing post for your trip to England earlier this year. I would love to see more pieces like that in the future.

    JenniferJanuary 2nd, 2018  12:08 AM

  • Thank you for your posts. I love your chic, pared down intelligent aesthetic and am inspired by many of your posts in my own style. I am an academic, a wildlife biologist, working in a space that doesn’t often feel welcome to an independent sense of style and a love of fashion! Too frivolous and superficial! But I will persist as it brings me great joy to wear beautiful well made clothes and accessories, and to fill my home with beauty. Blogs like yours are a great foil to a conformed bland norm. I also love your sister site – Palais – always interesting. One thing I would love in 2018 is to read a little more of your writing. Often, I will see a post and read your short byline, but then wish you had written a little more.

    JacquelineJanuary 2nd, 2018  6:08 AM

  • Happy New Year! I love and appreciate your blog- thank you! I, too, love your uniform segments. I would like to see you do more with new trends in fashion; wearable trends. Pieces to add to our wardrobes to update and keep current. I see trends in magazines, but a lot of them are too “runway” for real life. I agree with C. Michol, I would love you to do some posts on luxury items that stand the test of time- both quality and style wise.
Thank you for your insight! I look forward to your blog everyday!

    KarenJanuary 2nd, 2018  11:19 AM

  • Thank you for your clear and lovely point of view. With so much media accessible at all times, yours is one of the few filters I enjoy and look forward to daily.
