Fab Bags That Don’t Break The Bank

I have a number of classic handbags and I paid dearly for them. Yet, I wear them all and many are now well over 10 years old. Thankfully, there are some great new bags that have the same staying power and are not bank-breakingly expensive. LA cool-girl Sarah Staudinger launched her Staud line of bucket bags just few years ago and they sell out as quickly as they come in. And new to the scene Dutch designer Eliza Wandler’s namesake collection Wandler (and here) is poised to be a huge hit.

  • Thank fo so much for this post. I wasn’t aware of either brand but love both these bags! It’s nice to see great design at affordable prices.

  • For me, bucket bags look good, but I never actually buy one. Something about the bucket shape isn’t classic enough for my personal taste. There are some very handsome and beautiful bags at lower prices these days, and thankfully I think we are past the phase of ‘IT bags’ and watching which ‘celebrity’ is carrying which bag. Next to jewelry, I think a bag is the most personal fashion item a woman wears. Most important – more than price, trend, status – should be what looks right on the woman wearing it and the appropriateness to the occasion. The fact that Preston wears her bags ten years later speaks volumes! If it holds up and if you still love it 10 years later, it was a wonderful purchase. For a trip last month, I purchased a French-designed nylon and leather trim tote bag in indigo blue at a luggage store – for under $150! It’s the perfect travel bag, and it sits on my car seat, grocery cart, and the floor of the salon or coffee shop without any worry whatsoever. Owned it less than a month, and it’s proven to be a perfect every day bag. I still use all of my ‘good’ bags, just not every day.

  • I love these bags- it’s nice to have quirky bags interspersed with more classic ones. Sadly the local fox ran off with mine …..
I love Paula’s comments- very relatable for me. And yes glad the IT bags have seemingly retired from the front pages!
A British arts and craft designer Sue Lowry does amazing quirky bags- and no- not advertising just in awe of her work and planning to buy one – sometime soon.

  • I had already been eyeing Wandler and she has some great colors for Spring! Made in Italy, low-key and a great price. I am sure they will sell fast.
