Here Comes The Sun, Cont.

Last summer I tried bronzers to achieve a golden glow without sitting in the sun. But I have rosacea, which means my face already has some color and bronzers are often uneven in the humidity. I was happy to hear that Gucci Westman, who has rosacea, too, is developing products to combat it (if you didn’t catch the video, it’s a must-watch). What I really want is something for my legs—for some reason, they don’t get tan even when I play tennis.

So, I perused Into The Gloss for some self-tanning tips and these two products got top marks. I’ll let you know.

La Mer gradual tan and here, Josie Maran self-tanning oil.

  • Have you ever tried IPL laser for your Rosacea Preston. I live in Australia and as I have aged have developed rosacea on my face just like my Grandmother had. I was recommended laser by my skin specialist friend and it worked a treat. I haven’t had it since. My favourite bronzer for the legs and body is St Tropez. Also a favourite glow booster for my face is Clarins Radiance-Plus Golden Glow Booster. A couple of drops of this oil to my moisturiser adds the added bronze I need but just the perfect sun kissed amount. Eleanor Langmead

  • I really like the convenience of Tan Towels for my legs and arms. I find them at my medi spa. So simple!

  • I have tried at least a dozen gradual tanning lotions. Vita Liberata, Jergens, l’Oreal, Shiseido, Aerin, St. Tropez, to name a few, if it is available in the US or in Europe, I have tried it. La Mer is the most expensive one that I have tried but it is also by far the best and only one I will purchase again and again. No strange smell, completely foolproof and no orange danger. Highly recommend it.

  • The la Mer is wonderful and has a lovely scent. ! Been using it all summer. Then I put in my carry on and TSA nabbed it!

  • Legs need a lot of self-tanner, so my go-to is Jergens Natural Glow in Fair to Medium. Foolproof, easy on the pocketbook and good color. Plus, it also comes in a 4oz tube so I can throw it in my carry-on for summer trips.

  • I’m the same with Rosacea and agree that IPLs have helped. That being said, I still avoid a tanner on my face and prefer a little bronzer for a subtle glow. I love the look of a soft tan on my legs but won’t sit in the sun either. Over the years, I’ve tried just about every product in every price range out there. Jergens mousse foam is not only streak free, it is scent free and dries instantly. I forget I even have it on. I’m traveling in Sweden now, and I can’t get over the beautiful deep golden tan on the majority of men and women. The sun is out and everyone’s basking in it!

  • I tried laser a few years ago (not sure if it was IPL) and blew up – looked like a chipmunk storing nuts. Not sure if it really helped. I do know that when I’m on stomach acid blockers my rosacea blooms like roses in the spring…

  • Preston, I also have rosacea and take Robaprozole for AR (complication after surgery) and find that my skin is clear and smooth from using prescription Metrogel. It’s a thin gel that I use every morning right after cleansing, before everything else. It doesn’t interfere with skin care or spf. I also mix Tan-Luxe drops in my moisturizer every third night or so for beautiful summer glow.

  • Like SueM, I would also recommend TanLuxe. I used to be a huge fan of St. Tropez, got tired of the smell of Jergen’s, then I saw a recommendation for Tan-Luxe. I don’t use a self-tanner on my face either, but for legs and arms, this works great.

  • I have been using La Mer products for many years, and now I can’t wait to try their self tanner for my shoulders, arms, and legs! But I don’t ever apply self tanner to my face – I’m convinced that even with a good facial SPF 50, I still get a little summer glow on my face in the summer months. (However, when I know I’ll be outdoors for awhile, I pile on Neutrogena’s SPF 70-85 for the face. It’s a wonderful SPF, pleasant to use, and blocks everything, which is my goal).
