My New Skirt(s)

You’d have to be living under a rock to not know that midi is the length du jour. Last fall I was half heartedly looking for a satin, ’90s inspired, midi-length skirt, but it fell to the wayside. So, this summer I started looking, again, with real intent. After trying maybe a dozen, I happened upon this one by the Danish, California-based designer Anine Bing (more on her personal style later.) This skirt ticked all the boxes: fit, price, and colors. Paired with a sweater (black turtleneck or oversized) and boots or sneakers, or with a blouse and heels; it’s a real multitasking wardrobe item.

Skirt tan and black, earrings, boots, sandals.

  • Vince made a satin one. It packs well and works with a t shirt, tennis shoes and a leather jacket

  • That’s the one I posted on last year, it’s in the link.

  • Pretty look. My sister who is just back from Scandinavia is raving about Scandi style. I remember last year you posted at least once about school tour outfits. As I begin the process with my child this fall, I’d love to review those posts but cannot find them. If you have any similar ideas for this year, they’d be most appreciated! Thank you!

  • I can only dream of wearing these style of skirts, damn you curvy hips! I do love the look of them along with beige but not for me. Thank heavens, we are all different.

  • Hi Preston, I recently purchased a navy satin midi…LOVE! I plan on wearing it next with a silk daisy print Equipment blouse and navy suede booties. You are correct, it is so versatile.

  • I bought a navy one from Vince. I have an oversized, chunky v-neck sweater that looks great with it (as do other things. I’m thinking about the Anine Bing gold one above…tbc

  • Do love Anine Bing’s style! And as an FYI – Tracy Feith is making his classic slip dress again!!! Looks great under a sweater or sweatshirt

  • I got the Vince one last year based on Preston’s suggestion. I love it. It also looks great with the black turtleneck and flat black knee high boots. Now may have to indulge in the Anine one.

  • The label Raey (available exclusively from Matches) has some lovely similar skirts as well as some gorgeous simple silk satin slip dresses.

  • Is Tracy Feith reviving his old line or still sticking with Warm? I’m so sad that I gave away an old red slip dress of his from the 90s – the one with the ruffle hem on the bottom.

  • You have me thinking. I love the length and shape. Need to ponder if I can get away with silk in my office.
