Trend Challenge

Stripes and white ankle boots are everywhere so I challenged myself to assemble a weekend outfit that incorporates both trends. I spied a number of women at the NET-A-PORTER headquarters yesterday wearing white booties and we’ve all seen them on show-goers – they are ubiquitous right now. I championed the white boot in 2016, but didn’t go there. If I were to get a pair now, I might revisit the Chloé Susanna — they’re great for running around. Regarding stripes (also everywhere), I couldn’t justify another top until I saw this one by Acne Studios — it’s so me I practically swooned.

On second thought, the boots + grey sweater and grey jeans would be super chic and less busy. Céline makes 2 versions of the Elliptic Heel ankle boot and these — they are really good, too. You can see the first pair in an earlier post.

Acne Studios sweater, Rag & Bone jeans, Chloé Susanna booties.

  • I love your pairing. I just got white boots and LOVE them. I was so against them, but now find them to be “fresh”. I got a block heel Celine pair and they are wonderful!!!

  • Two things – love the Celine boots that MaryB bought – very cool. Also have been loving the Chloe Susanna boot – but not sure I could do white and the embellishment. But I do love them in other colors too. Lots to consider…..

  • I like the white bootie trend on others but I can’t seem to envision on me. Stripes, that I can do! Frame makes a few stripes knits each season that are terrific.

  • Love the boots…but I swear I wore that striped turtleneck to high school…in 1968. Everything old…

  • Hello Preston, I just purchased an updated version of grey jeans. They seem to make everything fresh and modern.

  • LOVE this look! My color scheme this season is back, grey and tan. Must have the turtle neck.

  • My Chloé Susannah boots (in black with silver) are one of the best purchases I’ve ever made, can’t recommend them enough. Having said that I shy away from wearing them with a pattern unless it’s black because they want to do the talking. That sweater is swoon worthy and I heartily endorse (both of us) buying it. ☺️

  • When I saw the white bootie in 2016 it was in the late winter/early spring, I believe. I was so grabbed by the look, I immediately tried to find a pair in a reasonable price point, but could not. It looked so fresh and right, but very trendy. I still love the look, but will probably pass on it. I liked the pointed toe kitten heel look, personally, but the Chloe Susanna is great in any color. The look is a flash back to the “go-go” boot era, which I loved then too!

  • I love the white boots. I purchased a cream pair earlier for fall but now I want white. But that is a high price point if I tire of them…

  • The go-go white shoe craze for me came in the form of a white Mary Jane style with low block heel and a squared-off toe. I was so pleased with them until one day, walking home from jr. high school, a boy asked me if I “kicked a brick?” I put them away and never wore them again. The only white shoes I have owned since were my for my wedding. This Spring, however, I overcame this trauma and purchased a wonderful soft white Chanel loafer with a kiltie. No square toe this time ~ : ))
