Totême: The Square Toe Mule

The Swedish couple Elin Kling and her husband Karl Lindman, the founders and designers behind the brand Totême, have opened their first store — in Stockholm, naturally, and Vogue has the scoop. They’ve, also, added shoes to the line. Based on Ms. Kling’s minimal and classics-driven style sensibility, I look to Totême for clues as to “what’s next”. Square-toe mules must be next up in the fashion queue and they look fantastic — especially with jeans.

  • I have been following and buying Toteme since they launched. I am so loving those shoes.I am traveling to Stockholm soon and plan on visiting their new store and hopefully picking up these shoes.

  • It seems ages since square toe shoes were a trend.

I have a pair of of dress low heel, square toe shoes with a buckle on the front, and a pair of square toe loafers that I love and have been waiting to wear again. Glad to hear!

  • I noticed that Everlane has a square toe flat

  • Even Everlane has a sqaure-toe flat.

  • I love these shoes. I can’t find them online. Are they not available yet? Do I need to go to Stockholm? 🙂

  • I stopped promoting Everlane on kic because I would always get a slew of comments saying the products are crap.

  • These shoes are so elegant, fresh and the heel height marvellously workable. I’m an instant fan!

  • Some of Everlane’s products are not good at all, but many of them are just fine. Not of the same quality as Chanel, Prada or Bottega Veneta, of course, but not bad at a price point most can afford. Not everyone who reads your blog can spend what the designer brands charge…which is not to say we don’t enjoy reading about those items.

  • I’m a huge fan of reasonably priced basics (cotton turtlenecks from LL Bean, Uniqlo tees, non-designer sneakers, J. Crew men’s sweaters, Levis, etc.). However, when I get a lot of comments questioning a line’s quality, I stop promoting it. I’m grateful for readers’ reviews of these products — saves me many returns. If Everlane has upped their game and quality, I’ll be happy to go there!

  • Saint Laurent has square toe sandals.

  • I bought a few Everlane cashmere sweaters this winter…not the thin ones for $100, but the heavier waffle-knits. They are not designer, to be sure, but the quality is very nice. Much better than J Crew’s cashmere has been lately!

  • Everlane cashmere has improved. I bought one several years ago and found the quality lacking – itchy and pilled easy. The waffle knit crew and ribbed neck V won me back this year. Soft, stylish and well priced. The Day Boot is pretty good, too.

  • Chic! However, previous experience with mules suggests they are ’sedan chair’ shoes.

  • I’m really liking M.Gemi these days, and they just dropped a version of this with a slingback in white, black and silver: https://mgemi.com/edition-3-4-19/the-quadratini/00_3076_01.html/#!/color/041. The slingback may help avoid the sedan chair challenge!
