Beach Reads

In my beach bag: I’m racing through Daniel Silva’s “The New Girl” so I can crack open “Chances Are…” by one of my all-time favorite authors, Richard Russo. A group of fashion world alums has started a book club and we are reading “Daisy Jones & The Six” for our kickoff meeting in September.

  • I recall the pleasure, this past winter, of seeing you recommend my memoir, Inheritance, on its publication day. I’m a reader of yours, so it was particularly fun!

  • “Daisy Jones…” took me back to my Rock n’ Roll days, so it was a really fun read. Need to check out your other two recos!

  • Just devoured Daisy Jones…fun to realize it was loosely based on Fleetwood Mac. Enjoy.

  • I was so psyched to hear about the new Russo book. The cover alone is fantastic!

  • Hi Preston,

I know that you welcome readers’ responses to others who write to you, so, with your indulgence, I’d like to reply to Dani’s comment regarding your post on her memoir, ‘Inheritance.’

During a late night phone call, Preston and I discovered we were reading your elegant memoir at the same time. It appeared at precisely the moment our family was grappling with our difficult, elderly mother, the infinite details and frustrations of increasing her care, and, unexpectedly, with the emergence of childhood memories echoing a lifetime of love, vulnerability, and pain. No family is immune from its past conflicts, but to have ours surface as we were also immersed in your story and the poetry of your words, was, in equal measure, overwhelming and cathartic. As we read, we more than once had to remind ourselves to breathe.
Since then I have taken every opportunity to recommend ‘Inheritance’ to my friends, as Preston has to her readers of kic.

  • Love book recommendations! Daisy Jones was a great read. I haven’t read anything by Richard Russo (yet) and have decided to start with Nobody’s Fool. I will report back! I love finding a new-to-me author and devouring all of their past work.
