Porter Edit

This story, on Malgosia Bela from Porter Edit, perfectly captures the mid-August temperature shifts. Midday is hot, but the mornings and evenings are now cooler. A sweater with shorts is a bittersweet reminder that summer is winding down.

Alas this is the reality of the whole English summer and the reason for classics like the cricket jersey, twinset, etc. I’m already wondering whether to break out my fairisle again…hey ho
The last week of August is a roller coaster of anxiety as it creeps into September. I chase the sun and grip the summer tight.
As much as I try to embrace all of the seasons and shifts in weather, I will always feel a little melancholy as the end of August draws near. For me, it’s completely related to that ‘time to go back to school’ feeling which I experienced for seventeen years. I was very content being home with my siblings + parents, living a simple life of swimming, backyard play, roaming the neighborhood, etc. I was blessed to be a child during the Memorial Day-Labor Day school calendar era, and fortunately our children’s school still kept that schedule when they were young. I’m sure I sound antiquated, but sadly, our city’s pool hours + club kid activities are all a wrap at this point. That said, summer has more than one speed, and I love to pop a sweater on with shorts during the last third of summer and shed it by noon! : )
