Re-Trench

In my last post I noted that I don’t need a new trench, however, a classic, belted style has, for years, eluded me and would be a smart addition to my wardrobe. I have and love the Bottega Veneta above on Linn Hagglund, but I’m going to see if I can, finally, find a more traditional style at APC or Burberry. To be continued…

  • I hate when stuff eludes me. Why don’t you belt the unbelted with any interesting belt? Then you have something no one has until they copy you!

  • Hello Preston, I bought a black, knee length Burberry raincoat in Berlin almost 20 years ago! It is still in great shape and I wear it a lot. It goes with so many outfits. Obviously an excellent investment.

  • Burberry has some lovely offerings at the moment; classic with a twist x

  • I have two trench coats that I love–a black cashmere long kensington from Burberry, and a tan cotton twill from Khaite SS ’18. I can fit a Zara down puffer under the burberry, which makes it warm down to about 40 degrees, too. I intially thought the burberry was more for my mother than for me, but it still looks great and I get many compliments on it.

  • This is a tough one as trenches are ubiquitous, but I find one needs to search long and hard to find the one that is the perfect length, shade of beige (if one is not opting for black/navy) and level of detailing. I am petite so too long and too many buttons looks more frumpy than chic! I bought a Burberry long ago and agree they are a great investment. They have plenty of different styles and fits too so it’s worth going in and taking the time to try them all on.

  • This has given me the idea to pull out my old Burberry knee length navy trench. Glad I did not shorten it

  • Agree with all about the Burberry, can’t believe how much I wear my black in spring and fall and over sweaters even into early winter. It’s versatility in all fashion environments can’t be beat. Having said that I am looking at APC for a khaki version. Keep us up to date and good hunting. ❤️

  • Ralph Lauren Collection trench coat is so beautiful. I would buy it in a flash, but it doesn’t come in my size. I have two traditional Burberry trench coats (black and beige), but would trade them in for that Ralph Lauren one!

  • I would love to be tall enough to pull off that Bottega trench. It’s got a good edge to it. I also agree that it’s hard to buy a trench coat. I still haven’t found the right one. Most have the buckle on the sleeve and once altered to shorten the sleeves, small holes are left which get bigger over time and the need for another coat! Sigh!

  • Tracy- I suspect that we are looking for the same trench…

  • I bought a classic Burberry trench (made in England!) back when I lived in Tokyo 6 years ago because it was the thing to wear in spring – many Tokyo women brought it out on the first day of spring and it was in force until summer. I couldn’t wear it, it was just ugly and it didn’t have a hood for when it rained (it’s tricky to ride a bicycle and carry and umbrella). So I gave up my fantasy outfit and sold it once I moved to Hong Kong. I swore I was done with trench coats until I tried the latest Miu Miu version with a small black bow. It’s perfect, and even though I haven’t worn it yet (still summer here in October, and we skipped Spring…darn HK weather for fashion…) but I think I’ll have this one for life.
