Keeping Classics Chic

Yesterday’s post on classics got me thinking about how to wear them, especially at my age, without looking mumsy. The Irié sweater above could have been styled with jeans for a great weekend look, but tucked into this skirt is a modern take. A fisherman-knit sweater with a satin midi skirt, a trim cardigan in lieu of a top under a blazer, tailored pants in black leather — you get the idea. To be continued.

  • Preston, I absolutely adore your blog and all of your posts. I have many similar thoughts on fashion/style/the industry but no one in my personal life can relate. Keep It Chic is inspiring me to start my own creative outlet! I’m starting to jot down my thoughts – I will keep you posted. x

  • Very timely post for me! In recent years I have been forced to acknowledge that my physical form is more “mumsy” than my wardrobe though, lol. I am making a concerted effort this fall to find clothing that compliments my form without screaming “older woman”. Its challenging, but fun! I’m committed to it, at any rate.

  • Nailed it. Fine line between frumpy and edgy when incorporating classics. You’ve given us some good inspiration here!

  • casual chic styling ideas YES more please for this “mumsy” who lives in the burbs. I may dust off my handmade wool rose colored fair isle sweater from Scotland in the 80s ….. is that ok Preston or will I look silly and what to wear with it? I clearly need guidance LOL.
