Not Just for the Coffee Table

My husband asked if I have anything on my Christmas list and I sent him links to these three books. Creative director Fabien Baron’s career retrospective Fabien Baron: 1983 – 2019 and Holiday: The Best Travel Magazine that Ever Was by Pamela Fiori are out now and Mary Russell’s Entre Nous: Bohemian Chic in the 1960s and 1970s: A Photo Memoir will be available March 10, 2020. When I was at Harper’s Bazaar Fiori was editor in chief of Town & Country and I pitched her a T&C family supplement – even though the president of Hearst loved the idea, Fiori dismissed it and I’m glad she did. Soon after, I left Bazaar to start my own business so I could spend more time with my young daughters. I never looked back.

  • Knowing Preston, I have no doubts that her decision was made with a lot of thought, including the ability to do without the good income she was earning at that time. To be a stay at home mother, is not a luxury that all women can or want to make. The ultimate feminist move is to take lots of things into consideration, including your own happiness, and make your own decision based on that. Financial privilege certainly gives one more freedoms, but most mothers in our country don’t have that privilege.
