Bling Binge

A few months ago I posted this September Vogue Paris image in a hits-of-fall collage. Little did I know that it would spark a mini obsession with diamonds set in my preferred yellow gold. Once considered a bit tacky or ‘camp’, this combo has stolen my heart. I bought a few pieces and I’m even considering resetting my platinum engagement ring.

  • Surprising to me to hear that yellow gold & diamonds was once considered tacky as it’s always been my favorite combination — and it looks much better on my skin tone than white gold or platinum would. I think yellow gold is a much more classic setting for diamonds, depending on the design and the diamond cut – it lends a lovely warmth that balances out the flash of the diamonds and feels more approachable! Enjoy experimenting!

  • Love diamonds with gold, always have & I think Meghan helped modernize it with her choice of engagement ring & jewellery.

  • White gold or platinum is my preferred metal. Yellow gold is very conspicuous against my skin. Viva la difference! The world would be so boring if we all liked the same thing.

  • Back in the day, I only wore yellow gold. My first engagement ring, earrings, necklaces and bracelets were all yellow gold. I had some very nice pieces.

When I got engaged to my now husband (after a 28 year marriage ended) I went with white gold. Since then, I’ve stick with white. When gold was high, I even sold many of my heavy gold necklaces and bracelets…more than the color of gold, I don’t wear such big jewelry any more…my tastes have changed over the past 45 years!

  • I like yellow gold with multiple small stones, as shown in the collage. Just a bit of bling. I think it’s really pretty.

  • Because I wear yellow gold, I too have thought about resetting my engagement and wedding rings – but I feel a deep sentimental attachment to them the way they are.

  • I think you should just wear what looks best on your skin tone.

I would never reset my gold and diamond wedding ring. I never think of it as looking dated….I think I just look like a woman who has been happily married for 35 years!

  • My wedding and engagement rings are set in platinum but I often wear other rings, earrings or necklaces that are diamonds set in yellow gold with them. It took me a while to embrace wearing white and yellow metals at the same time but now that I have, none of my jewelry left is languishing.

  • I wear my rings stacked and the setting on my engagement ring has worn thin and needs to be replaced. Wouldn’t have considered it otherwise.

  • I love yellow gold and diamonds. I also love yellow gold and yellow diamonds. I would keep my platinum ring and just buy
A gold one and switch it up. I love the DY starburst ring in the photo!
