It Can Wait

Many readers bought clothes for upcoming graduations, weddings, and special events (now canceled or postponed) then sent me pictures of the dresses hanging in their closets. My friend Amy bought a number of items from ARossGirl❤️Soler and posted with the hashtag #whatiwasgoingtowear. Thankfully, Amanda Ross Bacon’s designs are not trendy, they are timeless classics that will look great for years to come.

I know that many folks aren’t buying right now, but I want to help support small designers.

  • I learned from my seamstress grandmother to keep style classic and chic. She said it would last forever. Glad I listened. One day we will get back to our lives and when we do I will be wearing my Soler x Amanda Ross dresses and tops to the grocery store!! ❤️

  • I have faith that we will have events again at some point! And it just proves the point that buying classic pieces makes sense. I do feel a need to stop shopping for awhile . . . This whole event makes you realize just how much you already have!

  • I just moved and know precisely how much I have… Many pieces are from college and even earlier, which is a testament to classic, well-made items. And I never throw out a sweater because it has a hole, everything can be repaired.

  • I bought that same dress from them in pink with an olive green belt. I CAN wait to wear it… in honor of the meds/tech/service industry people who aren’t wearing pretty dresses daily. I appreciate anyone who appreciates classic cuts and style… fast fashion can be distracting for many.

  • It’s a real conundrum – I want to support online retail right now, especially when most are offering great deals on current items, but at the same time – when and where to wear them? Plus, there’s that pesky matter of the plunging stock market and 401Ks – hard to just justify non-essential purchases when your retirement funds are taking a hit!

  • Gorgeous dress! Quality is always in style and cheap is too expensive. My mother, a product of the Depression, always stressed this to her children. Buy the highest quality you can afford.

  • I absolutely love your style & blog. I have enjoyed it for years. Thinking back to the rude email you were sent last week I decided I should let you know that it’s the first thing I look forward to in the morning then the news … keep it up

    more please

  • That is a pretty dress! Timeless… Hopefully, the world heals soon and it will.

  • My biggest hope is that everyone stays well and this levels off. Wishing you all the best.

  • I haven’t stopped shopping, but I don’t shop excessively to begin with. The dress, shoes, and bag that I recently bought for my daughter’s Spring wedding is going to be perfect for her early fall wedding! : ) I feel optimistic things will bounce back relatively soon. And when it does, we will need something to wear. : ))

  • Preston,

Please post about designers! We all need to mentally escape from Covid-19, and fashion is a fabulous way to do it. I haven’t stopped dreaming about what I want to wear when this is over. And for those who can afford to, shopping supports the economy and the fashion industry.

  • . . . I should have added, as with 9/11, when everything came to a dead halt, one of the best things we can do for our country (from home) is to continue to buy and support businesses/keep our economy going.

  • Preston, this is so timely that you mentioned holes in sweaters! How do you recommend repairing holes from moths? Or from other things. I am about at wits end trying to figure out how to fix holes in wool and cotton sweaters and would be grateful for any tips!
    Thank you so much,
    Grace

  • That is a beautiful dress…the color would be terrible on me, but great on a blonde! I have ordered a few things lately (casual pieces). I have a wedding in June that may be postponed, and my stepson is (thankfully) getting married in November…I have time to shop for that!
