Back On My List

The Balmain Blazer

It’s peacoat and blazer weather in New York, my favorite. I took a pass on this Balmain blazer (and here) when it debuted in 2012, but today it’s at the top of my wish list. Either new or preowned, I’m on the hunt for one in navy wool with a bit of heft. The shorter length and sharp tailoring look good right now — and no sad looking pockets.

  • I love the shoulders. And everything looks amazing and right on Emmanuelle. Thank you for another great post, Preston.

  • This blazer is perfection. A forever piece! Thank you for always finding the chicest classics.

  • Beautiful piece that has stood the test of time. Just bought a similar one from Rag and Bone. Love the shorter length, more nipped-in shape and no pockets.

  • This pic has been pinned forever! So inspirational!

  • Happy hunting! Such a beautiful shape. I have a charcoal Armani that is very similar and every time I pull it out it still gives me a thrill.

  • I bought this in beige last year. I love it but like Chanel, the armhole is cut tight.

  • The wash on the jeans is perfection. Been watching a lot of 80s & 90s movies while stuck home with teenage boys. Think when we get out of this I will definitely be buying modern versions of those “classics”.

  • That Balmain blazer is the chicest of the chic. Not in my budget, unfortunately. I did splurge on the navy Smythe Duchess blazer that Duchess Catherine made famous. It is gorgeous and the tailoring is perfection.

  • I was inspired by this same picture when I first saw it & jumped at a cropped navy blazer with gold buttons from Joseph. The look & feel is very similar. I wish I could bust it out during these lovely spring days we’re having!

  • Funny, I had three of these and recently consigned them – loved the look but found them really uncomfortable because of the stiff shoulders and the stiff fabric. (I kept an oversized double-breasted one that’s a bit easier to wear.) This will sound ridiculous but I find Chanel and Gucci jackets (as spendy as they are, but I keep them forever) the most comfortable to wear all day because the construction is much softer. I guess I’m more of a jacket person than a blazer person.

  • This may be why I’ve tried it 100 times but always returned… Hmm
