Memorial Day Weekend

Memorial Day – a day to honor and remember those who gave their lives in service. It’s also the unofficial opening act of summer.

It is cool and a bit rainy here and we are still in quarantine. Sadly, no gathering with friends and extended family, quick trip to the Vineyard, or French Open tennis. So, this weekend will be about food. I’ve actually become quite the cook these last 10 weeks. Until recently, my kitchen skills could be described as ace food assembler — cheese boards, sandwiches, salads, etc. were my sole forte. But, no more. I made the roast tarragon chicken with crispy mushrooms, sundry quiches, and have roasted veggies galore — all delicious and worth the extra effort. Maybe by Monday we’ll be able to have a sandless clambake al fresco.

  • Same here too. We are all more involved in meal planning. All 3 boys are perfecting their go to meals and pitching in more and more. A bit of a silver lining of the lock down. We are also reminded of the great sacrifice of those in our past and those in our midst today. Have a happy weekend! ❤️

  • Just saved that recipe for the chicken. We also have been cooking more “elaborate “meals. Tonight it’s shrimp and grits, last night we carried in a variety of appetizers from one of our favorite restaurants (curbside, of course). We made shrimp scampi with Zoodles last week, along with chicken and vegetables with bucatini. Eating quite well…a bit too well…I made pumpkin bread last night. It’s not the season, but hey! It’s all good!

  • In addition to old favorites, I’ve been trying lots of new recipes. And, of course, much baking- maybe too much? Banana bread galore and sourdough anything but especially sourdough pancakes – leftover sourdough pancakes are sooo good when popped in the toaster, a swipe of mascarpone and a dab of passion fruit ginger jam!
