‘Summer to Summer’

Jennifer Ash Rudick‘s new book Summer To Summer: Houses By The Sea is a love letter to twenty five summer homes from Maine to the Hamptons. While growing up, I was fortunate to summer on Martha’s Vineyard. We’d move up moments after school let out and stay until Labor Day. When my daughters were little, we’d go up weekends and most of August. These days, a week is a gift. Tria Giovan’s photographs truly capture the essence of summering.

I’m picking up a copy at the Locust Valley Booskstore on Tuesday.

  • Congratulations to Jennifer on another fabulous book! I have it on pre-order at my local bookstore. I’m missing our home on Martha’s Vineyard this summer too….particularly with no travel plans ahead.

  • Our summer traditions are more about lakes and forests but something about these images is beautifully compelling, thank you for sharing. ❤️

  • Preston, As you know I am from Boston. We used to summer on Cape Cod in Wianno. My husband grew up in Manchester by the Sea, where his family still have 2 summer homes. We live south of San Francisco and go back to Manchester every summer to spend time with family at the beach. We just cancelled our plans because all 26 of us in 2 houses being in close proximity doesn’t work for social distancing. So sad.
We are waiting to see what the state of Maine is going to do. We might have to cancel our time in Northeast Harbor too. This is going to be a very different summer not being able to go east to see family and friends!!! Love, Pamela Taft

  • What better timing for another of your transporting books to reflect on the solace of the mysterious beauty found in the natural surroundings of the Atlantic Ocean. The homes you feature are like having a visual vacation in our uncertain times.
