It Color

I 💛 Yellow

Even though it’s not my best color, I love pale yellow — it’s cheerful and I consider it a neutral. The WSJ weighed in on the love/hate debate over this sunny color.

  • I agree. I love yellow when it walks between ivory and butter. So fresh when paired with white in summer. But hard to find. I have a full knee-length cotton skirt this yellow that I love to pair with a white linen button-down collared shirt (unbuttoned halfway and sleeves rolled up like your previous post) with light grey tretorns is easy for Manhattan summer. Though I’m only comfortable wearing it during this COVID summer on farmer market days (Sunday’s) since skirts dresses etc feel a bit overdone in the chaos of pandemic here… so I’m looking for butter yellow shorts that I use to pair with a tomato red top.

  • Swan,
I have a pair of pale yellow jeans from 2012 that I wear with a grey top and white sneakers.

  • Love your 2012 post! Looks just as great today as it did then. I’d love a 2020 run around post too.

  • Last October in Paris, I noticed that yellow pants on men were a trend. I don’t have many cropped pants but a pair in butter yellow is one of my favorites – I wear it with a white polo, navy cardigan and navy and white striped belt. It feels summery.

  • JCrew has a pair of shorts in a nice pale yellow. I have enjoyed them this summer. I normally enjoy wearing black, but this summer I find myself gravitating towards color–perhaps trying to lighten the mood during this dark time.

  • I love yellow too and agree that it is hard to find! What I wouldn’t give for a basic pale yellow 100% cotton tee to wear with white shorts.

  • Good shades of yellow are very hard to find! The only yellow I own is a very soft/butter yellow cashmere cardigan, made in Italy, which I bought to wear over an adorable black sleeveless, waisted ‘tea length’ evening dress. The color knocked me out back in the 90’s when I bought it, and I had completely forgotten about it. I would love to wear it again! We need a serious return to dressing.
