Dining Out(doors)

I’m hosting a birthday lunch tomorrow — we will be seated outdoors at small tables and I’m getting a COVID test in the morning. It’s going to be cool so I reminded everyone to bundle up. The WSJ asks “Are blankets the new going-out accessory?” — it’s likely. As we head into colder weather, we will need to think about how to stay warm while dining outside. Ponchos have been off my radar for a few years, but they could be a practical solution. This one by Johnstons of Elgin is in the NET-A-PORTER 25% off sale. And I love the Isabel Marant cashmere hood and Johnstons of Elgin cashmere wrist warmers.

  • Great post. I need those wrist warmers tonight! Wonder where I could go today in Chicago? We have every store imaginable but don’t want to spend more than $100. Wish your blog was interactive. Stay warm and stay safe.

  • Thought I’d leave my email if anyone has suggestions. Could be wrist warmer or a warm pair of gloves

  • I adore those wrist warmers!
An autumn outdoor lunch sounds lovely. Warm drinks by a fire pit are always welcome, and being outside can be such a much needed spirit booster. I do hope, however, that by this time next year we once again have the luxury of choice of being indoors if one so chooses..

  • Lovely suggestions… thank you.. do you have any for men so we can have something nice to look at while we are dining with them?

  • Its been on the warm side in eastern CT these past few days, balmy with, I dare say, a touch of humidity. I welcome weather cool enough for a sweater or jacket. Lunch outside in the fall sounds good, invigorating.

  • Somehow I never thought of wrist warmers for all those outdoor meals – what a great idea. Though somehow when I went to NAP to check these out, I wound up with the Loro Piana Fair Isle ones that go with every single thing in my closet!

  • There are some nice looking pieces here and I’ve been enjoying the Sara shrug.

  • Your post has me thinking about apres-ski. Warm shearling lined boots, a fur jacket, cashmere scarf and a warm hat! I think that people will have outdoor gatherings around the campfire during this winter so we should learn to enjoy the cold in style!
