On My Mind

I miss my friends. Since early March, the girls quarantined with us off and on and I saw my mother and sister fairly often. But not my friends. Motivated by a 2019 post, I had this Provencal-inspired table built for small dinners with hopes of entertaining frequently and spontaneously. I want to call someone and say “we caught too many fish, please come for dinner tonight.” Or, something to that effect. My greatest desire is that this will be possible in 2021. Until then, my daughter gave me ‘The Kinfolk Table: Recipes for Small Gatherings‘ so I can start planning.

New Year’s Eve we will dress up (I’m going to wear the Toteme black strapless dress) and ring in the new year around this table.

Wishing everyone the happiest New Year, may 2021 be all that you hope for.

  • Eating in the kitchen is so fresh and inspires an entirely different mood than seating in the dining room. It’s a fabulous table ~ will be a fun table to set and gather around! Wishing you a very happy New Year! Cheers to new calendars and fresh starts!

  • Yasmin, I’m grateful to you for coming back and telling me how great the Toteme dress is. I bought one for my daughter, too. It’s the perfect grab-and-go piece — just add combat boots or heels and you’re ready to go. A very Happy New Year to you.

  • Love your kitchen and it looks so cozy to eat in. Hopefully next year, you’ll be able to entertain friends. Happiest New Year and you’ll look great in that dress (but won’t you be freezing?)

  • Been thinking about this a lot too, miss the joys of lunch and hugs and drop ins with friends. Spontaneity period. Your friends will be thrilled to spend time with you in your kitchen, so warm and inviting. I’m also sure the dress looks amazing on you, bought the Maristella dress, happy with all Toteme quarantine purchases.
Light and life to you and yours and KiC in the new year.

  • Love your new kitchen, it’s everything ~ chic, functional & homey!

    SusanDecember 31st, 2020  11:53 AM

  • I love April’s words, “find your happiness and live in it!” Coming from the Henry David Thoreau literature generation, “to thine own self be true,” I agree – it is invaluable.
PS ~ Your first post of 2020 was the best!!

  • Vintage French bistro chairs were a gift ages ago from an ex Vogue colleague and dear friend. We did a trade.

    PrestonJanuary 2nd, 2021  9:36 AM

  • Happy New Year Preston – I’ve been following you from way back (you used to run your blog with a friend/colleague). Love your fashion style and chic aesthetic. Thank you for sharing the style of chairs.
    Stay healthy and happy.

  • Preston, can I ask where your dining chair is from on the left? I’m looking for ones exactly like that!

    AnnieJanuary 4th, 2021  2:55 PM

  • The 3 vintage French bistro chairs (originally red vinyl) were in exchange for 2 Mies van der Rohe chairs.
