Blogs I Like

Elin Kling & Pernille Teisbaek
In a comment on a previous post, Pamela asked which blogs I now follow. Sadly, many style bloggers moved off the platform to Instagram. Two of my early favorites, Elin Kling, designer of Totême, and Pernille Teisbaek, a huge influencer, shuttered their blogs years ago. Three good friends — Heather Clawson of Habitually Chic, Navaz Batliwalla of Disney Roller Girl, and Alyson Walsh of That’s Not My Age — continue to produce great content. Stylist Julia von Boehm relaunched her eponymous blog last week and I mention Editorialist, by the incredibly chic Kate Davidson Hudson, often. And Jennifer Alfano’s The Flair Index has a strong point of view and is a really good read.
Creating content, not just product-pushing posts, is a lot of work, so I’m not surprised that a number of bloggers have switched gears. I’m sure there are many more wonderful sites than just the ones listed here — please share your favorites.
Wow, thanks Preston! I know and love all those except JVB, which I’ve just subscribed to. I miss all my old faves so excited to discover more in the comments. For beauty news, I follow British Beauty Blogger in the U.K. If anyone’s considering starting a blog, please do it; I can’t handle any more email newsletters!
Love Habitually Chic! I start the morning with WSJ, KIC, Le Catch and Habitually Chic:)
One of my favorite things to do is sit and read through all my favorite blogs. Many that I’ve subscribed to are no longer publishing, so thank you for some good new ones! I enjoy Instagram too, but you don’t get the same depth and detail in an IG post as you do in a well-written blog post.
Thanks for the list and there are two that are new to me. Does anyone know of a good book blog? Current novels….
Thank you Preston! Most of my favorites have shuttered and too many of those remaining are just pushing product now! So I appreciate you highlighting the few left that are still worth a read….
A lot of fashion brands have great blogs on their sites, but like Disney Roller Girl, I get overwhelmed by so many newsletters. Plus, I miss content like KIC that isn’t tied to promoting a brand. There are still a lot of good beauty and interior design blogs, but for some reason fashion blogs faded away. I have just 3 to recommend, mostly outfit and inspiration images with little commentary. Still, a good break from Instagram.
Lovisa Barkman – Scandinavian style and beautiful apartment
trini-g – Luxury brand outfits in simple lines and a neutral palette
9to5chic – Elegant and modern work-appropriate outfits
Kathy, I haven’t had much luck finding book blogger whose taste aligns with mine, but I love the essayist and book critic Molly Young. She has a book review newsletter you can sign up for on Vulture, which also includes an interactive Google document where anyone recommend books with a brief synopsis. I’ve found some great contemporary fiction that way.
I concur with all of the above. I also think it’s about being of a certain age and how you want to engage with fashion/design /arts on a different level. My millennial daughter simply wants to scroll through and click to where to buy. Love all of these blogs! Thanks for the book recco!
If I may one more to the pile, I’ve followed Nest by Tamara, which is an interior design blog by Tamara Stephenson. She’s got a particular POV (very Manhattan UES & Hamptons(, but I find her taste, tone and writing super engaging.
Thank you so much for the recommendations, Preston. I completely agree that the majority of blogs out there are product pushers. They stray from their original vision to make a quick buck which turns me away and discredits them in my opinion.
I agree with Lo, Trini-G is one of my favorites for outfit inspiration.
I’ve been toying with the idea of starting a blog and registered the domain over a year ago. I have a laundry list of topics to post (fashion, books, lifestyle, my Essentials [please repost your Essentials post so this amazing community can share any updates!]), but I’m not sure what’s holding me back. I need to work up the courage to take the plunge. X
Go for it, Michelle!
“Karima Hunter’s “ A Note on Style “ is a favorite to add to the list.
Thank you all for he suggestions. I found some new ones here I am sure to enjoy!
This makes me all the more grateful that you do what you, Preston. Thank you.
Thank you for the great recommendations – in addition to the ones listed here, I follow A Note on Style.
KIC, David Lebovitz, Le Fashion, The Flair Index (wardrobe project)
Totally agree with the blog migration. Sorry to miss so many wonderful voices here…but love the ones you highlighted!
I would also add to look at https://www.lecatch.com for fashion, https://luellajune.com for a great punch list of home/fashion ideas.
Please just don’t move to TikTok! Love KIC.
Kathy and Lo – I highly recommend bookstoker.com for book reviews and recommendations.
Thank you for all of the new ideas. I read many of the blogs mentioned above….Habitually Chic, Le Catch, A Note on Style. I also enjoy Ann Mashburn’s “You Need This” posts on her website. Does anyone listen to the podcast “What We Wore” by Laura Vinroot Poole? I just discovered it and I highly recommend it. Dinner: A Love Story is also a good cooking/lifestyle blog that I have enjoyed for years. Preston, thank you again for a beautiful and inspiring blog. I love your writing and style and look forward to reading your posts every day. Happy 2021!
thank you, preston! i read kic on the daily and the blogs you listed will be my #2 and so on.
you are right about posting content that is interesting & not always product pushing. short posts with great photos. just enough to convey the message and enjoy it.
Thank you all for the recommendations. With the exception of JVB (new to me) I read many of the same blogs as you Preston. I’ve been hungry for something new though and will check out your readers suggestions. A beautiful blog with a voice I can relate to is hard to come by. KIC is a unique gem. As you mention, so many have turned Instagram focused.
To Kathy and the others asking for a book blog, try Modern Mrs Darcy.
Love Laura Vinroot Poole’s podcast, What We Wore. Also love Laura’s store Capitol in Charlotte and her newest store in Brentwood. There are very few retail boutiques left that have such a strong editorial eye for style. Highly recommend a visit and the service is top notch.
If I may shamelessly promote myself, I am a professional archivist and fashion historian. If you venture to Instagram, perhaps you’d enjoy my fashion history and archive driven content @thedigitalarchivist.
Please keep your blog going!!
