Hot Hot Hot

Yesterday was a scorcher and the next 5 days are to be the same. After a few stern words from my dermatologist, I’m going to cover up even more by the pool. My black rash guard gets very hot, so I’m looking for one in white. Also, I’ve started carrying a visor in my handbag — easier than toting around a straw hat. And these braided sandals have my name all over them.

Visor, rash guard and briefs, sandals.

  • https://www.tutublue.com/ makes some great 50 spf swimwear. Enjoy the Summer!

  • Love all of it. However, a rash guard should have built in SPF in it to be really effective. This one is great looking, but doesn’t have that. Would love to find a white one that had sun blocking material.

  • You and me both. If you find one, please share.

  • I just looked and found a very nice looking crew neck white, high rated SPF from Land’s End.

  • Thank you! Just bought it — will post a pic of it with the briefs.

  • I agree with Kathy, I was going to recommend Lands End as well. J. Crew is my go to for swimwear, but they don’t currently have their rash guard in white. Stay cool, Preston! Marcheline Isabelle

  • And ideally, a visor with built in SPF would be great as well. Sunscreen doesn’t seem to be enough anymore…… This one offers a lot of coverage as well as UPF protection.

  • A visor is essentially like a baseball cap in regards to sun protection. There is no coverage of the back or sides , so one’s neck and face still has a good deal of exposure. Because you have coverage in the front, you lose sight of the fact there is still so much exposed. For extended periods in the sun, a hat with close to a 3″ inch brim, or greater, all around is generally recommended.

  • I am surely in the minority here, but I still like to get some color for vitamin D. I wish the sun weren’t so damaging. The catch-22: a tan looks fantastic on everyone, yet it will destroy our looks eventually. Sigh.

  • Coolibar.com is very practical for swim shirts and rash guards UPF 50

  • Wow, so glad I came late to this post Preston (spent the day in the pool yay!) and all the great recommendations for rash guards. I will be using self tan now regularly until September, no true tan for me.

  • I combine my sunscreen (Neutrogena has several, including a zinc full block and sheer spf 70 just for the face) with an assortment of full brim hats, including a bucket hat.. I don’t wear the hats well, but with good sunglasses, it always looks better. (Visors expose the scalp). When not in the water, I sit under an umbrella or in the shade. Happy Summer days to Preston and her fantastic readers!
