On My Mind

Random Bits

I’m packing for the Vineyard and have challenged myself to take a number of items that I, for whatever reason, rarely wear. These Celine slides are in that category. While on island, I’m cohosting a cocktail party and Mother’s opal, newly reset by Susan Foster, will be perfect. We are starting the next round of house renovations (I still have PTSD from the first round) and I’m taking The Maine House for inspiration.

  • I looked at some images from that book…inspiration indeed! We have never been to Maine…it is one place I have on my list. We haven’t traveled for quite a while, but have a Scandinavian cruise set for next May. We are getting older, so a driving trip to Maine sounds like a perfect next trip after Northern Europe!

  • I second Kathy. The ring is beautiful! I sold my Celine slides because they were so uncomfortable . Perhaps that is why you don’t wear them? Take a back up pair just in case.

  • Your opal should be in the AMNH Hall of Gems – its spectacular ! The Curious Lore of Precious Stones by George Frederick Kunz is a terrific book about gems and their symbolism. Opals have a fascinating history.

  • That ring is so elegant and gorgeous! I remember the previous post with the ‘before’ photo and Susan Foster did a terrific job. It’s so fresh and wearable.

  • Preston the opal looks beautiful. I’m with Barbara on bringing sandals you know are comfortable. I’m buying that book as it looks inspiring even though I live in a Victorian stone house. Wonderful photos of other people’s style helps me feel creative.
Ugh renovations are so painful and so worth it.
