An ‘Aha’ Moment Thanks To September Harper’s Bazaar

The September issue of Harper’s Bazaar is out and the FOB (front of book) is particularly good — lots to buy and how-to-wear tips. Recently, I was erroneously sent a men’s small cream crewneck sweater when I’d ordered a women’s small. I’ve been sitting on it because to return it to the middle-of-nowhere England via Royal Mail is a pain in the neck. When I spied this picture of Lauren Santo Domingo, with her fabulous Hermès Haut à Courroies bag (the Bazaar story is about the bag, naturally), I was struck by her oversized cream crewneck sweater. It looks great, and since I already have one, problem solved.

  • Love everything about this look!
    Thank you

  • I love an oversized sweater with skinnier pants. Not skinny but skinnier. Definitely not baggy pants . LSD has loads of style and it’s nice to see her with a “casual” look. That bag is perfection!

  • I prefer shopping in the men’s department. This look is perfection, I’ll be recreating it this fall. As always, thank you for the inspiration, Preston! Marcheline Isabelle

  • She is unerringly stylish always although oftentimes a bit formal for my life. What stands out for me in this photo is the shoes and not that they’re heels but the colour. I know it’s simple bookending but I’m feeling very inspired by the ivory and burgundy. Love.

  • I have heard that it’s de rigueur not to match your shoes to your bag, but I love how they pick up on eachother. Great look!

  • I love how this look feels modern and cool yet with a subtle 80’s preppie vibe. Flawless!

  • Love LSD’s style and this look in particular. Would also love to know where you ordered your cream jumper in England (always on the hunt for a good knit!)

  • It might just be me regressing to a happier (less literal world-on-fire) time but I’m realizing my fall purchases are all very late 80’s early 90’s. Lots of mens oxfords, black capri leggings, and loafers.

  • Like Laura, given the devastating debacle we are witnessing before us, it’s hard to consider a super-sized Hermes bag. But regardless, my view of chic always holds an element of appropriateness-to-the-occasion. So I have to wonder where a woman carries this bag (a steamer ship over the Atlantic?), what is inside of it, and how much it weighs when even partially filled. As fashion photography goes, it has appeal. Beyond that, it just seems nonsensical.

  • I have an extremely heavy all leather weekend coach bag, that has aged to perfection over the years!
I love to squeeze my outfits in and take it on driving trips to Country Inns.

As long as my husband packs our steamer and carries everything else, I can arrive in style with bag in hand instead of a noisy contraption on wheels 🙂

  • Your post about Annabelle Selldorf led me to articles about her love of Savile Row – her Timothy Everest suits in a Gentlewoman article and a Wallpaper post about her Hardie Amies and Spencer Hart collaboration – which then led me to buy a few men’s items from them – even a belt! The quick-release belt from Timothy E is so well made) . Beautifully cut menswear is forever-wear and so sexy.

  • LSD always looks perfect! She is quite tall. I doubt those of average height could make these proportions work.

  • There are some great images in the issue and I was so excited that on a whim I was able to access the magazine through my library’s app.
