Back to the Brooch
I’ve now posted this picture of Miuccia Prada three times — I love everything she’s wearing, especially the brooches. Part of the fun will be finding the perfect ones like the vintage Tiffany feather and the circa 1770 Georgian flower spray — sigh.
I didn’t realize when I posted this that my friend Alyson Walsh, editor of That’s Not My Age, wrote a great piece on brooches two days prior. They must be in the air.

I don’t know why brooches fell out of favor but I am all for them. These are stunning. The only caveat is making sure they are well secured. I can’t tell you how crestfallen I was when I lost one in NYC back in the Eighties.
And that infectious smile! Happy hunting.
I spent far too much time considering Tiffany feather brooches recently!!!! https://thetiffanydiamondfeather.tumblr.com/tagged/TheTiffanyDiamondFeather/chrono
Love brooches. Happy New year!
Time to unearth our grandmothers’s— or great grandmother’s jewelry box!!!
Brooches have always been the Queen’s signature accessory…besides her hats.
…and Madeleine Albright loved brooches. To wear brooches, one needs personality and confidence……-just like wearing hats. Here’s to both!
What a lovely post and reminder to wear our things! My mother had two brooches, one a gold/diamond ‘feather pin;’ the second she referred to as’the wedding pin.’ I regret I didn’t get the story at who’s wedding the pin made its first appearance, but she wore it on her gown in 1949, as did I and my two older sisters. My daughter’s gown had a Venetian lace bodice, and the pin disappeared on it, so she wore it in her hair. It was her ‘something old.’ Cheers to charming and personal jewelry!
What a lovely story of your mother’s wedding pin Paula! Brooch, for a long time associated with women of a certain age is celebrating its great come back and it’s so good to see it instead of Cartier LOVE clones or other mass jewellery (unless it’s purchased before influencers era). I have an entire collection and my favourite one is a Swedish Art Deco horse shoe with diamonds inherited from my Grandma. The only piece of her jewellery which survived WW2…Happy New Year by the way!
Loved Alyson’s article! Thanks for passing it along!
