Switching It Up: New Balance

I’m giving my Adidas Sambas and Gazelles a rest and have pulled out my grey and beige New Balance sneakers — time to switch it up a bit with classic pairs I already own. I love the New Balance x Aimé Leon Dore collaboration, which has been instrumental in the brand’s revival.

What's New

  • I feel you! I wore a little Hermes scarf in green and orange yesterday as a sort of ascot and got down a pair of orange Diesel sneakers that look similar to the NB. I’m so glad you remind people not to over purge. I keep all my real designer items and shoes and accessories I may not use all the time but are handy for travel or like the sneakers feel right again.

  • Preston, my 30-something son is totally into sneakers and keeps them in boxes in his closet the way we would our favorite pair of Gucci or Hermes loafers. Glad I raised him to take care of what he owns! I had been asking him a lot about what’s hot and what’s not in the world of sneakers when finally he said, “Mom, would you trust me to pick out some sneaks for you for Christmas?” Of course! I got the greatest pair of NB collabs. Nothing obvious, but the kind of thing that if you know, you know 🙂

  • I love Hogan’s or Tod’s to wear with suits during the daytime in the city. They are also the perfect shoe to pack for travel to other cities where you will walk all day but stop somewhere chic for lunch. For a more relaxed vibe I adore Spalwart

  • I love New Balance.
Do you have suggestions if one DOES NOT want to wear Golden Goose or Gucci sneakers? I love the casual & comfortable look with dresses but don’t want that on my feet.
I love your blog so much!
    Thank you!

  • I love NB sneakers especially the 990’s. Covid has turned me into quite a sneaker head.

  • Love NBs, but be sure to store them well. After an extended time away from our apartment, I took an old pair out for a spin…only to have the soles disintegrate after a couple blocks.

  • Hi Urvi- I agree with Gigi that Hogan and Spalwart are good options.

  • I, also, have become a bit of a sneaker collector. I never heard of Spalwart before this post, but I checked them out and agree! Love their look and not too crazy price.
