#Stripes

When I put this picture of Farrah on my Instagram feed it got me thinking about all the lines now devoted to stripes. Nikki Kule, Mark D. Sikes, (both early kic profiles), and the La Ligne team are producing some of the cutest striped pieces.

The White Shirt by Lucile Roy

I’d not heard of luxury shirtmaker Lucile Roy below until I stumbled across this pic of Valerie Leberichel above. Only sold in France (and online), this may be the excuse I’ve been looking for—a weekend in Paris.

These February Vogue Italia covers of Gisele, photographed at home by Jamie Hawkesworth, are adorable and refreshing. Can’t wait to see the rest of the story.

Spring List Toppers

This combo is where my eye is going for summer. I love the topstitching on this A-line skirt, and the black Saint Laurent sandals are like a siren song.

Perfect Layering Item: A Shell Jacket

What could be better than a light-weight shell jacket for spring. It’s the ultimate layering piece, can be rolled up and tucked in your bag when the temperature rises, many are waterproof, and right now it comes in lots of great colors—I’m in!

Going Old School

Nantucket Lightship Basket

The last two summers, versions of Jane Birkin’s signature basket have been  popular. I’m betting on the Nantucket lightship basket making a comeback and have my eye on my mother’s above.

Originally made on whaling ships in the early 1800s, the lightship baskets didn’t become popular as women’s handbags until the 1940s. Sturdy and with a lid, my mother carried hers every summer and it still looks great.

There are lots of lightship baskets on eBay and Etsy. However, I reached out to my friend Stacey Bewkes of Quintessence since she is an authority on all things Nantucket and she recommended Four Winds Craft Guild for both new and vintage baskets.

Giovanna Battaglia Englebert wears hers in the winter, which is chic.

New Store and Show

Bottega Veneta’s NY Moment

Bottega Veneta combined three landmarked 19th century townhouses on Madison and 64th, which Tomas Meier spent the last several years designing, resulting in the largest BV store in the world.  On the fourth floor is a new concept called The Apartment where the furniture and home collections are showcased.

I couldn’t get there last night, but will early next week before it officially opens on February 9th. In celebration of the new store opening, Bottega Veneta will show during NYFW for the first time ever, also on February 9. Stay tuned.

Walk the Talk

I’ve mentioned a number of times that I cut down a pair of Manolo Blahnik Pascalare boots, but realized that I’ve never posted on them. Funny how a small tweak took them from the back of my closet to being my favorites. They look great scrunched down, too. à la the Totême Fall 2018 show.
