Too Kule for School

Kule collection

This Kule look, tomato red topper and pant accessorized with a pinky signet ring, is so Gloria Guinness. It’s a modern take on pajama dressing, the jet-setters’ run-around uniform in the mid 1960’s. Paired with your favorite sandals, this becomes a go-to warm weather outfit. Leave it to the queen of cool, style setter Nikki Kule, to make such covetable pieces.

KULE trunk show April 17-19, The Carlyle Hotel, NYC

Makes me want summer now

The Isabel Marant boho tunic and sandals are sitting on my wish list. Add white or denim shorts and I’d be good to go. Would be an ideal Coachella outfit. That too tops my list.

Lovely Lilly

“Essentially Lilly” A Guide to Colorful Entertaining

Perhaps my post yesterday on easy dresses was an unconscious homage to Ms. Pulitzer and her revolutionary shifts. I grew up in Lilly Pulitzer dresses and skorts, and so did my girls. Colorful and washable; a mother’s dream. Lilly had a shop in Edgartown down on the dock in the 1960’s where you could buy her famous fabrics by the yard. I fell hard for a bright yellow with orange ducks print that my mother had made into a maxi dress for me. I will try to dig up the picture.

My Spring List on ‘The Window’

Barneys asked what I’m wearing this spring and showcased my picks on their blog, The Window. If you ever wondered what I would do if locked in their store for a night, it’s in the fun Q&A. Thanks Barneys!

Is the CC the new BB?

I am very late to the party re. BB and CC creams.  Beauty Balm and Color Corrector creams contain moisturizer, color, primer, SPF and a number of other ingredients. I want to try the Clinique CC cream as it has redness-reducers, but that’s all I really know.

Please weigh in on what they are, which ones work, and why we need them.

Paris Vogue in Peru

Paris Vogue sent Peruvian photographer, Mario Testino, to his homeland to shoot a number of stories for the April issue. My favorite images from the trip are these of Erin Wasson shot in Nazca, a Sahara-like desert south of Lima. German mathematician, archeologist, and Nazca preservationist, Maria Reiche, was the inspiration for the story.

The Celine dress, Dolce striped top, and Bottega floral skirt, are a few of the best pieces of the season and look great in this context. Birkenstocks and socks anyone?

Scents of Spring

One of my spring rituals is to try new fragrances. Annick Goutal’s Mandragore has been my signature scent for years, but every so often I get the urge to try something new. The recently launched colognes by Annick Goutal sound light and summery, but I think it’s time I tried the Frederic Malle perfumes, my friends rave about them.

My Current Run-Around Uniform

Honest to God, these are the pieces I have been living in recently.

Elle MacPherson may be doing the school-run in leather pants; I save mine for meetings. The Frame Denim black skinnies are my run-around pant of choice. They are really comfortable and have a lot of stretch so the knees don’t lose their shape as I get in and out of the car. Note: they run large by a size or two. I bought 2 pairs, the second are smaller to wear under tunics, almost like leggings.

The Banjo + Matilda cashmere  sweater is the perfect spring staple. I have it in both black and light grey and layer it with the Proenza Schouler Tees in python and tie-dye.

My Chloe snake-print scallop-edged flats from two seasons ago are camel (too orange-y) colored and not as versatile as the ones above. I may have to put these on my wish-list.

I know I have already raved about the Givenchy Pandora, but it’s the ‘Ginsu’ of bags. It can be worn on my arm, shoulder, or cross body. And the best bit are the separate compartments for wallet and stuff– no more digging for keys in a big, dark hole. Mine doesn’t have the woven top unfortunately.

Yellow gold is my thing and I love this Aurelie Bidermann braided cuff and Dean Harris hoops, both are classic, yet modern.

The Isabel Marant navy scarf paired with all black is super chic.

I love my Dita aviators so much that they are welded to my head.

Ta da!

White on White

This is one of my favorite spreads in the new issue of Self Service. The Victoria Beckham white-and-cream cotton wrapover shirt-dress looks crisp on Iselin. I will simulate this look for my spring uniform.

La Belle Beyoncé

Talented, successful, and gorgeous, Beyoncé is truly a modern woman. I suspect she is nice too, which only adds to her tremendous appeal. I came across these images while cleaning out my magazine pile and was struck by how lovely she is. The barely-there makeup and pale lip is perfection. Bravo Vogue!
