Interior designer, KiC Style Setter and dear friend Katie Ridder has a new book Rooms which showcases her impeccable design sensibility and extraordinary use of color. Katie told me “this book shows that decorating can be fun, hard work, but fun.” I especially love the bird prints and bright green in this dining room. I love color in my homes and will follow Katie’s advice “always remember that around the corner there lies another color, more patterns, and design to explore and relish.” Words to live and decorate by!

Born into a family of prominence and style (grandmother was Elsa Schiaparelli), Vittoria Marisa Schiaparelli Berenson became a fashion icon in her own right. Her modeling career began at 16 when discovered by Diana Vreeland who became one of her biggest champions.
Marisa worked with the top photographers and was on the cover of Vogue, Bazaar and even Playboy. Later she did film work, most memorable for me was her role in Barry Lyndon from 1975.
Marisa Berenson: A Life in Pictures is a must- buy book for anyone in love with 60’s and 70’s fashion.
I hope my friends are not reading this post because many will be receiving this book as a present from me. Shooting is a great sport and it is hard to admit that I am not as good as I once was. But many of my friends are excellent shots and this book will make a perfect hostess gift.
Hunting is not my thing but I love an afternoon of skeet shooting, especially on a crisp fall day.
For my birthday my mother gave me an amazing topaz cocktail ring and my husband gave me a signet ring. Both are gorgeous but both fit my ring finger.
I am a ring girl. I have a Cartier trinity on my pinkie and my wedding ring is stacked with five other bands. So my dilemma was that I love both rings but had to switch back and forth.
When I saw these two images in the October issue of Paris Vogue I had a true “aha” moment. Yesterday I dropped the cocktail ring at the jeweler to be sized to fit my pointer finger.
I have not worn a ring on this finger since I was probably 12, but it looks so chic and now I can wear them both at the same time.
Martin Scorsese’s HBO documentary George Harrison: Living in the Material World premieres October 5th and 6th (it is a two part series). The project explores the spiritual inspirations that Harrison infused into the Beatles’ groundbreaking music.
It has been almost 10 years since Jeffrey Eugenides’ last novel Middlesex was published to much acclaim. I am also a huge fan of his earlier book The Virgin Suicides which was made into a film by Sofia Coppola. The Marriage Plot deals with the aftermath of a college love triangle. Sounds like the perfect fall read!
Just when I had tasked myself to find more black day dresses, Thakoon presented this irresistible shift for Spring. Not only are the colors heaven but I am a big fan of the longer-hem-in-back trend. My new Balenciaga dress is cut this way and it is tremendously flattering. Actually, many of Cristobal Balenciaga’s dresses had a longer back and I wonder if this trend is a nod to the recent Balenciaga retrospective.
Every trip to Paris includes a stop at Laduree. I dutifully bring back boxes of the smaller macaroons for my assistants, daughters and friends. Invariably the delicate treats crush and crumble in my luggage but no one seems to care. These are the most delicious and divine macaroons and now you can get them on Madison Avenue. The pale green box filled with scrumptiously colored macaroons makes the ultimate hostess gift.
Thanks to Irene we went 6 days without power, water up to the back of the house (sometimes living on the sound can be hazardous) and a few trees down. During this time I kept thinking about the above T Magazine story on Isabel Marant’s cottage in the woods with no amenities and how she finds it so peaceful and a bit savage. I agree that it is good to know that we can live with less but it certainly is nice to have a hot shower too…
When I was going through Inez and Vinhoodh’s 65 page Fall preview story in the August issue of French Vogue I realized that the shoe of the season is the pump. Black or nude, kitten or towering, it doesn’t really matter. The pump looks fresh and clean and goes with everything.
