Agnes Baddoo

Agnes photographed by JP Plunier in his shop Feal Mor

Agnes is one of the most multi-talented women I know. A fashion stylist for print (Italian Vogue, Vanity Fair, Vogue), celebrities, musicians, commercials and film, she is also a musician (was in a band The Bushmills), photographer, author of 5 Eat Shop guides, has a great new blog called Present and she just launched a line of Everyw’air aromatherapy sprays. Whew!

For the past 17 years she has lived in Los Angeles but she was born and raised in NYC. Agnes grew up on Central Park and attended an elite all-girls school on the Upper East Side. Her glamorous mother was a buyer at Bergdorf Goodman and her father at the U.N./Ghanaian Counsel General. When we met in college I was awed by her sophistication and ease in the world.

Post college we both worked at fashion magazines and Agnes went to Elle when it launched it’s U.S. edition. Her time there shaped and supported her outlook on female beauty and style. She could relate to Elle’s diverse approach and what she calls “kind of their kind” archetypes especially seen in the models who were chosen to promote inclusive and attainable style and womanly beauty.

Agnes is the queen of high-low from her Cartier Tank watch to her love of vintage mixed with ethnic pieces. She has her own personal style which evolves ever so slightly over time and is never completely (deliberately) on-trend. She is a true original!

Summer Hair Help

It was ridiculously humid last week and blow-drying my hair was an equally ridiculous endeavor. But I cannot go three months with just a messy pony-tail. I love Frederic Fekkai products and this Smooth Sailing Anti-Frizz Cream looks like the answer to my summer hair woes.  Filled with botanical extracts that purportedly tame the strays and a UV shield against sun damage, this product is a must-try. With a citrus and coconut scent, it sounds delicious too!

Oxford Girl

Oxford Girl Plum Sykes

It was a hot and muggy long weekend. I did not do a lot but I did read Plum Sykes’ Oxford Girl. It is a short and brutally honest piece about her childhood and first semester at Oxford. One of the things I like about Plum is that she does not candy-coat her experiences. Even though she hails from a posh upper-crust British family, the money ran out (and so did her father). One’s life is not always what it seems.

Midnight in Paris

I cannot wait to see Woody Allen’s new film Midnight in Paris.  Plus, my old friend Carla Bruni plays a tour guide- can’t miss that!

It’s Personal

French Vogue

French Vogue April issue

I may love statement shoes, but I am not a fan of statement jewelry. Those big chunky necklaces popular last year made me think of all the macaroni and fruit loop versions my girls made for me in nursery school. I adore personal jewelry, preferably in yellow gold, and the style pendulum seems to have swung in my favor.

I especially love stacked rings and bangles- there is no such thing as too many!

I no longer wear a crest ring. I had a blank signet ring engraved with my daughters’ initials instead.

Office Chic

Lonny Mag office

Michelle Adams' office at Lonny Magazine

I love everything about this office especially the drapes and oversized photograph. We spend so much time working that our office should look great and be inviting. Michelle Adams, the Editor in Chief of Lonny Magazine suggests that we should fill it with the things we love. Very chic advice.

Forget hats, I crave crazy good shoes!

Vionnet shoe

Vionnet

Despite the rain, I had a great time at the Central Park Conservancy “hat” luncheon last week and the best way to see all the millinery finery is through Bill Cunningham’s lens.

However, I left the lunch thinking not about hats but more about shoes. The rain gear de rigueur was Louboutin’s nude patent leather pumps yet the insane hats had me craving fantastical footwear instead. Yes I have my studded Valentino’s that I am quickly wearing out, but what I really want right now is a very high statement shoe.

What could be easier than a simple dress paired with a fabulous heel!

Jennifer Creel

A mutual friend suggested that we cover Jennifer. Long a fixture of the NY social set, she is photographed often and everywhere in her clean, elegant style. But what we love about her most, is that aside from all that, she juggles three kids, a multitude of business projects and charity work with aplomb. Jennifer is an obvious KiC profile.

To top it off, in person, she is warm, very funny and welcoming. She graciously invited us to photograph her at home and poke through her sunglasses and jewelry that she designs. And most importantly, she answered our questions!

Current Uniform
This winter I lived in MIH jeans with a high waist and wide bottoms, Michael Kors and Prada cashmere sweaters, a J. Mendel/Anya Hindmarch fur vest, and an Hermes men’s scarf in beige with brown trim. For lunches I love Chanel, especially a great shift and always top it with a J. Mendel bolero or vest. Weekends I am in jeans, either my Loro Piana horsey jacket or a Brunello Cucinelli navy jacket and Loro Piana brown felt hat. As much as I adore bright colors, I tend to wear mostly neutrals on the weekend and then throw on a bright scarf, colorful bag and my favorite Talitha sunglasses!

A few must-haves
Hogan sneakers, Lanvin flats, Leontine linens, Brunello Cucinelli white shirt and lots of color!

Fashion dictum
I never buy the same thing in two color ways and I love navy and white, especially for day.

I know you love Mustique, what do you wear when there
A white Eres string bikini with our newly launched Creel-Mack 14kt gold bikini belt with diamond butterfly and a Pucci blue and white cover up.

Being a mother
Is having it all! There is nothing in the world that can even compare to or accurately describe how amazing it is to be a mother.

Charities
Memorial Sloan-Kettering, The Museum of the City of NY, The Botanical Gardens, Save Venice

Coming in May

I have been waiting for la Prairie to launch a tinted moisturizer forever and lo and behold it will be in stores next month. Initially Hydra Tint will only be available in four shades.  Yet if it is anything like the other La Prairie products, it is sure to be great.  I wear little to no makeup so it is super important that my skin looks the best it can. I will give this product a test drive and let you know.
