A Non-Traditional Jean Jacket
The ultimate transition piece, the denim jacket is a forever staple. Collarless, belted, and workwear-inspired are nice non-traditional updates to the classic jacket.

Thoroughly enjoying your “Fall Finds’ posts this week! What is striking to me is how well all of the pieces work with each other and the endless styling possibilities. I can easily see this Balmain jacket w/the slit black skirt and patterned hose for one look, and paired with The Row brown turtleneck, cowboy boots, and that fabulous Sidney Garber ring for another. And, that is only two to start! Thank you for taking the time and thought to create these posts – high point in my week (and fall planning!).
Grabbing a borrowed chore coat, as I ran out the door, made me realize how relaxed a denim piece can feel. Even with some structure, it just moves differently and feels easy.
About 15 years ago I bought a terrific denim trench coat with perfect proportions at Old Navy, of all places. Received compliments on it every time I wore it, and chic ladies always asked who the designer was… I deeply regret donating it away. Sometimes we “rinse” to quickly. Haven’t seen it match yet, high or low market.
Lovely jackets and I love them… in theory. In practice, I rarely find practical use for them. A leather coat is always a go when the weather permits, but, for whatever reason, I usually find ‘an excuse’ to not wear denim jackets. Some interesting styling pictures would be very helpful!
I recently ordered the Paige Pacey belted jacket- I absolutely love it and it looks very similar to the Alaia, at under $300. Another terrific post, Preston! Thank you!
I purchased a belted denim jacket from Gap recently. Slightly puffed sleeve at the shoulder. Great quality and well priced. I highly recommend. And thank you! Your post has me feeling it was a smart purchase.
@Jean Louise- even before I read your comment, I was going to mention that I’ve seen jean jackets from both Gap and Old Navy that are cut very similarly to the Alaia—you may want to take another look!
Love them all…very pricey. Searching can yield very good alternatives…I bought a denim chore coat from Uniqlo last year for a fraction of those prices that is very cute and really well made!
