On My Radar

Bits & Bobs

I watched Past Lives, starring Greta Lee, on a flight last week and it is excellent. Marcheline Isabelle posted recently on Ms. Lee’s red carpet looks. Inverno, poet Cynthia Zarin’s first novel, is next in the queue — I want to finish it before I hear her speak this Thursday. Bows are everywhere so I pulled out my Jennifer Behr Gretta. I bought a pair of pumps from The Row’s Resort collection and love them. The ones above are the SS24 version and here. It would, undoubtedly, be sacrilegious to reupholster Mother’s Frances Knoll sofa in a floral print, but I’m tempted. This Nuxe body spray that I picked up at Monoprix in Paris is lovely. Next trip to Paris is late March/early April and I want to see Exteriors — Annie Ernaux and Photography at MEP. The exhibition celebrates the close relationship between photography and the writing of Annie Ernaux, winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2022, through texts from her book Exteriors (Journal du dehors) 1993, and photographs from the MEP collection.” Lastly, these Prada trousers are something my wardrobe is lacking.

  • Love your recommendations! The pictured sofa looks as if is slipcovered. I’d suggest the same for your sofa-floral prints are lovely in warner weather!

  • I am right behind Rebecca in expressing my appreciation for your posts. The recommendations are great, always. I loved this sofa image when it was first published and, like Rebecca, I’m thinking a slipcover could make it happen for you! With 3 pups, I’ve learned to love a great slipcover and that floral is fab. Just so perfect for the warmer months! Take care, all!

  • The Prada pants are beautiful and perfect with the pumps. I just adore tailored pants ~ I bought a gray wool/stretch Peserico some years ago + one in dark navy the following Spring. It was the first time I had seen that neat pin tuck pleat, which I think creates a more crisp and modern look. Peserico put two slit pockets on the back, much like men’s trousers, and the little notch at the ankle. Italians know tailoring best. If I needed them, I would buy these in a heartbeat!

  • And . . . so excited to see Jennifer Behr’s beautiful bows featured here, too! (I can’t wear them, but my daughter does). If a bride doesn’t choose to wear a veil, the selection of hair pins, bows, etc., at JB are positively lovely! 🙂

  • Past Lives was my best film of 2023 – and those Prada trousers are ace!

  • Loved Past Lives. I’ve seen authentic Knoll furniture recovered in fabrics not in the tradition of Knoll. I think it would be fabulous recovered in a floral, with the original frame showing. Very unexpected, and fabulous. I don’t think a slipcover would work well because of the arms and general lack of bulk of the piece.

  • Annie Ernaux is very much disliked here in France, we all think that her writing certainly did not deserve the Nobel Prize. It’s a pity that she gets such undeserved recognition abroad.

  • I love “bits & bobs”! I will absolutely NOT wear a bow but I will read “Inverno”.

  • Thank you for the mention, Preston! Past Lives is next on my Oscar watch list. I watched The Holdovers this weekend and it was fantastic. The shoes by The Row are painfully beautiful. I love them. Marcheline Isabelle
