Thank you for all of the kind comments yesterday. Now that I am on antibiotics, I have to be more diligent about sunscreen. eltaMD is my go-to and I just bought the lip balm and stick to leave in the car and another set to carry in my bag. Wish the stick existed when the girls were younger — applying sunscreen at the beach was always a challenge.

  • So glad you’re starting to feel better. EltaMD is the best! I truly use it every day whether I’m in the Midwest or in the Rockies at 9000 ft.. During the summer, the humidity in the Midwest tends to make my skin oily and Elta’s the only product that doesn’t feel sticky. Love the lip balm as well. I carry one in my purse and one in the pocket of my ski jacket. Another product you might check out is Colorescience’s Sunforgettable mineral brush-on powder with a 50 SPF. Again, very light and it lets me skip the foundation.

  • Dear Preston,
I missed yesterday’s post & I am sorry to hear that you have Lyme. I’m glad you are feeling better after starting the antibiotics. I love the EltaMD skincare line & thank you for sharing that they make an SPF lip balm. I am going to definitely try! Here’s to a slow & savory August.

  • Oh, I’m so excited! I can’t wait to tell my sweet daughter! She has been telling me about this product but neither of us have tried it! She also got me started on Dr. Brandt’s Skin Brightening sunscreen. Not sticky, but glowy. I’ve also had a straw hat pasted to my head all summer.

  • Love eltaMD products – my dermatologist highly recommends. The tinted face sunscreen is fabulous!

  • Hi Preston, I love eltaMD. My derm warned me against leaving sunscreen in the car. The protective ingredients degrade in high temps. I still keep some in there as a backup (I hope degraded sunscreen is better than no sunscreen), but I wanted to share this information with you and your readers. Hoping you are feeling better soon. I have missed you this summer.

  • Hi Preston. I’ve used Elta for years and love it but recently changed to ANTHELIOS UV MUNE. It offers significantly more blockage of UVA rays than any product available in the US. I’ve been using it religiously this summer and love how I haven’t picked up any color. With your frequent trips to Paris, it would be easy for you to pick up a bottle or two. I purchase mine from Care to Beauty which ships to the US. The key word to look for on the label is MUNE…it’s not on every ANTHELIOS sunscreen. I hope you have a smooth and quick recovery from Lyme.

  • Huge Elta MD fan and have been recommending it to anyone who (doesn’t) ask for years! When my son was young he had such sensitive skin and this was the only one that didn’t make him cry “it’s burning”, and I had tried everything. My new sunscreen is UltraViolette from Australia, recommended by a UK friend dermatologist. If anyone knows sunscreen it’s the Aussies! They have a really sheer formula that I use all summer, never feels greasy, and I like it better than the Anthelios. You can get it in Canada, UK, Ireland, and I think France. Sadly they don’t ship to the US so I stock up anytime I’m traveling.
Glad the antibiotics are doing their magic and for when you venture back outside another doc friend recommended Ranger Ready Scent Zero spray to prevent tick & mosquito bites. Now that young sensitive son is a college kid & camp counselor I send him with a bottle. No complaining from him!
