Something Old & Something New
This circa 2000 Lanvin coat and skirt set is out of the closet and on the clothing rack with items that I am currently wearing often. I’m a wee bit tired of kitten heels, and when I pulled out these Gucci pumps (I’d removed the GGs), I realized that I miss a block heel. Bally has a lot of great shoes in the FW24 collection and I’m going to give the Emblem Pumps a try.
I keep the top image on my inspiration board to remind myself that it’s possible to wear a shorter coat over a longer skirt and look chic, something I have not mastered.

Gorgeous outfit. I find myself wearing “vintage” pieces frequently. Last night, a 25-year-old bag and 22-year—old leather jacket. Sometimes they just need to take a rest and then they look and feel right again.
I love that you removed the GG’s off. Brilliant. I’m going to take a look at mine and see if I can get away with same (as in not leaving a mark).
Left 2 tiny holes, which I can live with. The GGs, not so much.
I felt the same way about those double G’s!
Great idea! Did you remove the GG’s yourself? Do you recommend taking them to a cobbler to do it?
Preston, your matching coat and skirt are beautiful – so smooth and refined. And I love the kilties on your pumps! I find that initials on shoes rarely work; however, I think Chanel is an exception because it’s a classic. The bow on J’ai Dior works for me. The Gucci bit is heritage and tailored. Other brand initials (Prada, J Choo) unfortunately often come off as ‘brandy.’
I had a cobbler do it.
Love that you keep things for a long time and then make them work in the present!
Unrelated question:
Good morning, Preston,
Has the “SHOP” section of the site been removed?
I miss your curated selections and would like to know how to view if still possible. Over time I have found things I would not have come across otherwise.
Thank you for the gift of your Keep It Chic site…..
B.
Funny that you post this now. Back in September I bought a pair of chocolate loafers from Ann Mashburn that are ringers for your shoes in their current state – block heel, kiltie style, etc. but with the addition of a small tassel. Love them! Hadn’t seen anything like this in a while. I loved style of the Gucci ones when they came out but hated the GG so I never go those.
Removing the GG is amazing!!! I read in the CBK book how she removed the Prada triangle on her ski jacket and it got me thinking! Love!!
i love that you removed the GG’s. Great idea
