Chanel Métiers D’Art 2026 New York

Matthieu Blazy held the Chanel Metiers d’art show, his second collection for the house, in the Bowery Street subway station. The clothes, casting, and venue all get top marks. Without a doubt, a wish-I’d-been-there moment.

  • Yes, it looks great but tone deaf in my opinion. Its visually interesting but I live in NYC and using the subway as a backdrop for luxury fashion show seems out of touch. In the last week we had people set on fire, shot at, assaulted etc on the subway.

  • It’s a disused subway station, not a working one. I watched the video and it was like a fun movie short. Suddenly everyone on the platform is TALL and wearing Chanel couture!

  • I watched the movie and thought that the clothes were wonderful. Certainly most outfits were not practical to wear on the subway, but it was just a stage set. The photo you posted is my favorite from the show!

  • I’m with Mary Anne –
I found this incredibly tone deaf. Luxury clothes in a crumbling infrastructure rife with rodents, homelessness and mental illness feels way off.

  • Ii agree with Mary Anne’s comment. After decades of Vogue fashion shoots set in third world countries, using (i.e., exploiting) peasant-poor locals standing around in backgrounds of filth and poverty as ‘edgey human accessories’ for fancy fashion photographers as if they were stage props . . . here we go again! But this time, the backdrop for Chanel suits is the scene of recent grizzly murders? And how many of the attendees depend on the subway? Tone deaf, indeed.

  • I love this, but I appreciate the comments here providing another perspective. My first thought was how they improved the smell of the subway station…
