W.ICONS: How To Care For Your Winter Woolens
I love a list of tips and this one on maintaining woolens by W.ICONS is pretty good. Depilling is my specialty.

Love a good organization post! I have used The Laundress cashmere products for years, but now I am on the search for a comparable replacement since their current recall.
Anyone have a great recommendation?
Preston, do you have a favorite depilling tool? I keep striking out.
Conair, the one that plugs in. I take off the safety ring and it’s a depilling monster.
To Jen – I have used Le Blanc Towel Wash and Linen Wash for many years and love it. They both come in a lavender fragrance, which is subtle and nice for the linens especially, and unscented. When The Laundress got shelved, I started using Le Blanc Laundry Wash in the Portfolio scent. I’m very happy with it. They also make a Down Wash and a Silk Wash, which could take the place of Laundress Delicates products.. The two Laundress products I miss most are for Denim and Sports. I suspect they will be back again soon.
I love this community that you have brought together Preston! Paula, I can’t thank you enough for the recommendation!
Yes, I second what Jen said! This community that Preston fosters is lovely. And I also appreciate Paula’s Le Blanc recommendation. Subtle lavender sounds like a pleasure.
Ooh I love a good debobble, very satisfying. Thanks for the recommendations for cleansers, just used up the last of my Laundress and was looking for Woolite. I think the most useful tip for me was to use a hand held steamer to refresh and wash less.
A good quality steamer – hand-held or whatever is ideal – it’s on my list for kicking off 2023! I welcome recommendations. Another pressing issue – needing a new washer/dryer and discovering all of the measurements have changed considerably industry-wide since we last purchased! I can’t rebuild my laundry room to accommodate the washer and dryer. :-)))
I have this Conair steamer and it’s great. Just put small washer and dryer in the master bath and it’s been life altering.
I have used Orvus paste soap for a long time for cashmere, wools, down jackets, quilts, needlework, etc. I have never had an issue with it; garments turn out fluffy and clean. It can be obtained in a gallon (!) size for handwashing-it lasts forever- and packets for use in a HE washing machine. It is used by museum curators for fine textiles, quilts, etc. Equestrians use it for washing horses. It is pure soap with no additives.
Paula, look at European brands: Asko and Miele. They make many compact, smaller sized washer dryer units.
Just a note about the Toteme sweater in the photo. I thought you had posted it before, and someone mentioned a Gap dupe. I can’t find it (maybe I saw it somewhere else), but I ordered it and it is really fabulous for a small fraction of the price.
Thank you, Preston, for this great idea and for the steamer link! I’m on it! :-))
And thank you, Keri D! I have an Asko DW and love it; was the only model that would fit with our non-standard counter-tops. Getting far off-topic here, but this all makes me wonder how do the people in historic Charleston outfit those wonderful small-scale homes?

There are tons of very similar versions all across the high street brands.
I live in a 13 foot wide Victorian Townhouse.
We just restored our kitchen and replaced the fridge with a Smeg, a Z Line gas stove and a 18inch dishwasher …all three are black to offset our Black and White ceramic floor and Farrow and Ball Smoke green walls.
To tie it all together we added a black stone farm house sink.
It looks amazing and all appliances plus the sink are on the smallish side, it can be done !
