Epic Novels
The Covenant of Water by Abraham Verghese is my December book club read. I suspect that I am one of only a few to have finished it. I listened to all 31+ hours (two r/t flights to France helped) on Audible. Narrated by the author is an extra bonus. Usually, I read short stories between epic novels but, for some reason, I’ve slid right into another sweeping multigenerational saga, North Woods by Daniel Mason. It, too, is very good.

Both look amazing. Thank you for the recs!
Loved The Covenant of Water. Oprah did a great series of podcasts with Verghese https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9JESD6vnvcs
I loved The Covenat of Water narrated by the author. It ‘s a brilliant and entertaining book!
I heard someone else recently talking about the Mason book and put it on my TBR list. Will have to add the other as well. I have a most unfortunate affliction when it comes to Audible: they put me to sleep! I swear I could be walking the dog and I’d slide onto the nearest bench. Sigh.
I’ve never done an audio book, and A Covenant of Water will be my first, thanks! I need to listen to a book for long walks. I loved Cutting for Stone by Verghese, and hope this one is close to as good as it was.
The Covenant of Water was a favorite of my entire book group. I also listened to it and found Verghese’s narration to be superlative.
Curious, do many here primarily listen to audio books as opposed to reading the book itself? I have a heck of a time finding time to read and wonder if books on tape is the answer.
Los Angeles driving is the opposite of pleasurable and I seem to drive a lot. Listening to a good book or podcast is truly diverting.
Heaven and Earth Grocery store by McBride also wonderful!
On my list!
Do try Barbara Kingsolver’s Pulitzer- winning Demon Copperhead. Fabulous on so many levels.
I posted on and loved Demon Copperhead!
