Sheer Black Hosiery
Sheer black hosiery spotted on couture show attendees in Paris this week. Under pants is my newest obsession. Sheer tights popped up on my radar when Mrs. Prada showed them in her FW23 Miu Miu collection, highlighted in a March 2023 post below.
Everything Old Is New Again: Gloves, Hosiery, & Socks
I love those sheer socks. So stylish.
I wear my sheer black knee highs more than I care to admit: under pants and even black denim. They are not the warmest, but they do make me feel as though it’s more acceptable to wear my flats in the depths of winter. No bare ankles here!
Thank you for this timely post! For overall polish and finishing a look, I think gloves have as much impact as a great handbag. On a recent trip to Boston where, like my home, winter is a real thing, I packed three pairs of gloves for a 10-day visit. An older pair for travel days (to avoid handles, doors, etc.), an above-the-wrist or 3/4 black or dark brown cashmere lined nappa pair for day time and evening; and a knit pair to match my knit scarf and hat. Every four years I always take note of what gloves the ladies are wearing on Inaguration Days, and this year did not disappoint. My ‘dress’ look for the Christmas season in Boston was actually nice slacks and sweaters, and I chose to take my J’ai Dior slingbacks, which I wore with sheer black knee-hi hosiery just as you’ve shown above. I hesitated, thinking wearing hosiery with slingbacks was a no-no, but going out with bare ankles is just as out of sync with cold weather as going out with bare hands. I love the sensibility of these accessories.
I love reading/learning from the comments. With pants I do a polka dot sheer which I think is from my love of all things 80’s Lacroix era. I also switched from Wolford to Falke for hosiery. The Falke/Lufthansa compression ones have saved me on long-haul flights and look great too.
As a flight attendant, a year or so ago I started noticing on international trips, the Air France ladies were shying away from the matte black tights and wearing a sheer black tight. I thought it looked great and started wearing sheer more often. With a nice heel I felt it gave my leg a feminine outline I’d not been seeing in my more almost pant like thick black tights. In an industry not really lending a path to sartorial glory, I’ll take a win here!
Lots of great comments here, but particular thanks to Georgie for the Falke/Lufthansa recommendation. I’ve never seen such a great assortment of compression products; I’ve been wearing the ghastly unisex ones for years! Just ordered for an upcoming trip.
