A Bold Lip, Less Lashes
This stunning Alaia SS25 campaign image caught my eye. The beautiful Daria Werbowy — in a fabulous pink, shaggy coat and a bold lip — is certainly impactful, but the natural eyelashes are a happy surprise. False lashes have been my pet peeve since they roared onto the beauty scene a number of years ago; I hope this signals an end to the hideous trend.

I agree, and her look is so fresh!
But I need I wee but of brown mascara to look awake.
Hear, hear!
Pamela Anderson’s move to a natural and fresh look was a catalyst as well. Love this trend.
Agree! Looks more new and fresh. After all if we are taking better of our skin etc, why not be more natural. Love the pop of color on the mouth!
I appreciate this image and this sentiment. Daria’s full eyebrows also contribute to her beauty.
A bold lip with no mascara is my unintentional work from home look. It makes me appear put together on video calls without the time-consuming process of lash primer and mascara (not to mention the mess removing it at the end of the day). My girlfriends swear by a lash lift that provides the slight look of mascara without the application. It lasts a while, too.
I’ve been loving Eadem Le Chouchou for a nourished lip with buildable color so I’m in control of how “bold” the lip appears.
I love a bold lip. I was late to the game, but enjoyed my eyelash extensions and not having wearing mascara. I agree that many women went too far. It is possible to achieve a natural look with extensions.
I’ve been waiting for the pendulum to swing back, ever since the heavy lash look started showing up EVERYWHERE. My eyes are old and dry and I wear glasses all the time now so I gave up on mascara awhile ago. But I do find myself thinking it looks a little bit bare … I’m sure I’ll get used to it
I will definitely try this! Need to find the right shade of red…
I love that image- especially the lip color.
Love this! The comment on the bold eyebrow was spot on – it’s all in the balance… the bold lip and brow is the perfect statement – adding heavily mascarad eyes would move the look from perfect to “made-up”.
For all-day-every-day, unless I’m going to dinner or have an actual invitation, for most of my adult life my only daily make up has been lipstick. I truly never leave the house without it, even if it’s a dog walk. Recently, I had the pleasure of visiting a Guerlain boutique, and the lovely staff assisted me in finding two new lipstick colors. Both were a little brighter/bolder than what I have been wearing. Their colors are beautiful! Something about a new lipstick!
The bold lip, bold brow and understated eye looks fresh and classic. Like others have mentioned a pop of lip color can do wonders. My mom used to say combed hair and a little lipstick is all you need and to this day I put on lipstick even if I am not going anywhere. In saying that I do like a little mascara.
Love the look…I find that sometimes just an eyelash curler with no mascara is enough…I never was fond of heavy lashes for me. Of course, my lashes are still dark…makes a difference.
I love this look but without a bit of eyeliner, I will look even more tired than normal. Maybe I should try polynucleotides.
I have brownish / blondish lashes that I get dyed when I have the time and interest. I’ve really stopped wearing mascara because I’ve started hating the feeling of gunk on my eyes and the hassle of removing it. But I’ve become much more regular about filling in my brows as my dyeing appointments have become more sporadic.
Ride or die mascara wearer. It’s going in the box with me at the end.
