Books in the Queue

I’ve challenged myself to read more non-fiction and I’m starting with John Seabrook’s family memoir, The Spinach King: The Rise and Fall of an American Dynasty, then, True Nature: The Pilgrimage of Peter Mathiessen by Lance Richardson. Kiran Desai’s new novel, The Loneliness of Sonia and Sunny will be third in the queue since I am going to hear Ms. Desai speak in December. Finally, MoMA’s Ruth Asawa: A Retrospective opened for member previews today and I can’t wait to pick up the accompanying book, The Tamarind Prints.

Your insight to new reads is so appreciated. I am looking forward to spending time on my porch with my wonderful new cashmere blanket and several of your suggestions.
I’ve never commented on any of your book recommendations because I don’t read as much fiction as I do nonfiction. So I’m looking forward to hearing about what you like in the non-fiction category. There are so many fascinating people and places, biographies, autobiographies, and historical stories. Like a life-long history course! π
I really need to cultivate a taste for non-fiction. I love fiction due to the fact itβs not limited by reality and an author can share so much of themselves with the reader through the story. Non-fiction offers true life experiences though, which has much to offer too. Interested in learning if you efforts to broaden your reading material changes your preference.
