On My Radar

Summer Staples

These long, lazy summer days have been lovely. Hanging by the pool is nice; tearing apart the house and gardens in the name of repairs and updates, not so much. Many of the projects are redos of things we no longer like, just six years in. So be it — it’s summer, and summer makes everything okay.

Here are a few things I swear by in the midsummer heat.

Hours of reading outdoors are so much better in these Peepers Sun ReadersEltaMD Red Color Correction Sunscreen is a dream come true. I bring Hydratis tablets in kiwi back from Paris, but love Liquid I.V., too. And I jumped for joy when Maria McManus produced my beloved Baby T in Black — they are not nearly as teeny as the white ones I posted about last summer.

Happy July!

  • Happy July indeed! After a perfectly cool Spring with timely rain showers, the heat is on – but it’s July, so it feels right. I’m convinced it’s good for the skin to sweat a bit. Better to tear apart the house and garden in the summer months than the dead of winter. There is no good time for construction, but if you’re very excited about your plan, it will be worth the headache, and you’ll be glad to have it behind you come fall. For T-shirts, I have locked in on Ralph Lauren’s icon tees in white and navy. They put a new neckline on it which I far prefer to the previous finish. Just returned from long, lazy, perfect summer days on a heavenly lake with the family. I’m committed to maintaining that summer spirit – touching grass and touching water daily.

  • Like you, my house is also partly torn apart as is our deck for replacement. I’m excited about the improvements, so it’s worth it of course! Thankfully the pool is open so we can relax and cool off.
I have been buying linen tee’s as I find they hold their shape and last longer. I experienced too many flimsy cotton tees and an equal number that were too heavy.
And I also am experimenting with electrolyte replacement solutions as I do not tolerate the hot weather like I used to. So far, no favorites. Happily, my double coated dog finally decided he does not mind hot and humid weather!
    Happy summer all!

  • I broke out with the worst case of impetigo (on my face) at the beginning of this year. I’m still dealing with it, and the redness. – so that green sunscreen is perfect. I stopped mid read to order it – thanks!
