More Summer Staples

This August, which is surprisingly right around the corner, I am focusing my reading on short stories, essays, and criticism. The only novel I intend to read next month will be Richard Russo’s Under the Falls. A longtime fan, I am thrilled he has another book out August 11. I heard Emily Eakin in conversation with Adam Gopnik (years ago Emily was Adam’s fact-checker at The New Yorker), and her book The Frenchmen — Derrida, Barthes, Deleuze, Foucault, etc. — is truly brilliant.
Leset has really been my go-to brand, and the pants and satin skirt are perfect day-to-evening pieces. I bought these The Row pumps in black and white to wear in the fall; however, the white pair has been perfect for jaunts to the city this summer. I’m obsessed with the wedge heel — it’s a nice change from the kitten heel pumps I’ve been wearing for years, and I’m ready to pass on a few pairs to a dear friend who shares my shoe size.

Wow, Under The Falls sounds so good! I too love Le Set. Sadly, I’ve given away all of that shape wedge shoe.
What style Leset pants are they please?
The Booker Prize long list was announced today. Have been counting down the days. I plan to get through as many as I can. John of John – the only one I have read from the list is excellent.
I’ve only read John of John and Elisabeth Strout’s The Things We Never Say. My dear friend is a literary agent and her author’s book, All Them Dogs, made it- she is over the moon!
I have the Yoko, no drawstring. Bought the smallest size and shortened them.
Thank you, this post is timely because I just lost one of my book lists and I am actually listening to This is the Story of a Happy Marriage.
The photo of stacks of books (and your gorgeous pool!) makes my heart sing. I seem to be spending more time, money and attention on books than pieces for my wardrobe these days. It’s been nice. Hope you are having a great summer!
I have so loved all the pieces I purchased from Le Set this summer! The city short, the yoko pant, the kyoto pant and a dress that I would call a Joan Didion dress–so easy and looks great. The price points are easy, too.
Such great book recommendations! And also – I have recently discovered Leset and bought the Rio capri and a couple of Kyoto cropped in fun colors, which are great for summer. Thank you, Preston, as always.
So many good books to read, so little time. Sigh… I was skeptical of the Leset Kyoto pants, yet I loved them so much I bought a second pair. The Row wedges are beautiful. Always look forward to your posts, Preston!
I have the Kyoto shorts for walking, they are great. Lightweight and plenty of pockets.
