Updating Eseentials

Fall Tweak

Many seasons I find only a handful of items to add to my wardrobe, FW22 was not one of those seasons. I bought a new coat, leather jackets, slingbacks, silk scarves, and belts — all things that I’d been looking for. So, as we near November and the inevitable sales, I’m hunting for a few essentials like warm socks. My trusty Wallabees are looking a bit well worn, so when I spied these A.P.C. ankle boots I thought it might be a good time for an updated pair. I’ll let you know.

:
  • Love the taupe color, as I feel like my Wallabees are looking a bit “yellow” these days. Please report back.

  • Love the shape of Wallabees but cannot be trusted with suede. Already have the socks thanks to your recommendation, love. Must feel good to have a realistic list and cross it off.

  • I have not had time for much fall/winter shopping yet, but did buy a pair of Valentino combat boots in black. I may be looking for s new black parka as the Gorski that I wore for 2 years developed severe fraying at the pockets, a hallmark of poor construction-not happy. Bought it at Neiman Marcus, so I will see if they can address as I had no response from Gorski.
The J Crew cashmere socks are nice-but they are not very durable and developed holes in the heels with only a little wear.

  • I just bought those J Crew socks and they are not cozy at all. They don’t even feel like cashmere. I was so disappointed.

  • HI Preston. Love the wallabees. Do you think they would be comfortable to walk around rome with? Going first week in November and trying to find a comfortable shoe for skirts and dresses ….would love your recommendations. Thanks

  • For sturdy warm socks, I prefer a merino wool ones from one of the European ski brands. It rarely gets that cold in London anymore but for those few days that it can, these are my toes’ best friends!

  • Rebecca, I have had great success with my Canada Goose jacket. I have had it for over 10 years and it still looks great. I wore it all the time when I lived in Michigan for 5 years.

  • I love this APC option…thank you!
I’ve always wanted to love wallabee’s but they made my feet look huge…going to try these. Been on the hunt for chukka boot replacement. I do love those JCrew socks…they are so warm, but agreed with the other comment on their longevity. Big toe holes are anything but chic.

  • FW is my favorite time to shop! I usually focus more on the cuts and tailoring available, but it makes sense that accessories match up now, too.

Rebecca, Triple F.A.T. Goose is another option for serious winter coats that last over the years. The acronym stands for “For Arctic Temperatures.” The warmth is fantastic, even over outfits that aren’t particularly warm. And the coats are made with ethically sourced down and coyote fur.
