A Few Days in Paris
Paris in January is great — no crowds and the city feels intimate and relaxed. It was fun to be there for the launch of the Louis Vuitton x Yayoi Kusama collaboration — they went all out. The ‘Monet – Mitchell’ exhibition at the Fondation Louis Vuitton was well worth the trek. Honestly, the Frank Gehry designed building is always worth the trek. This trip we stayed at the recently opened Château Voltaire. I loved everything about it — the service, the location, the private spa — it’s my new favorite hotel. Their restaurant is superb, too, and we ate there almost every night. As planned, I picked up the Perfumer H room spray, lingerie, and two copies of Virginie Mouzat’s book ‘Le dernier mot’ at Le Bon Marché. In the early ’80s I studied in Paris, Marc Jacobs was my classmate and good friend that summer. These Saint Laurent boots give me a vibe from that amazing time and I couldn’t resist. As I was coming home through passport control at JFK, the officer just stared at me then finally said “I’m trying to figure out what you’re wearing.” The Perfect Moment down sweater gets loads of comments, but that topped them all.

How are you wearing the boots? I never know what to do with that mid-calf height.
I wear them with skinny jeans or a midi-length satin skirt.
Sounds like a wonderful trip and you look so chic! Can I ask how you handled the white star on the down sweater? It looks so much more wearable without it!
Permanent marker, works like a charm.
The YSL booties are so chic! Any particular reason you chose the suede over the smooth leather? Glad you had such a lovely vacation!
Those look like hiking boots? Whose are they?
LOVE the sweater puffer!

Funny, I wanted calf and rarely buy suede, but the suede looked so much better with black jeans.
Permanent marker – so easy! Thanks for your response. I’m envious of your confidence in knowing when to tweak an item.
Paris off season is a joy. It looks like you made the most of it! And what a fun way to end your visit on the US side.
If something really bothers you and keeps you from wearing whatever it is, tweak it. Length, buttons, fit, boot height (not heel), etc. are all easy tweaks.
The black desk phones alone have sold me on the hotel! In-hotel dining has become a key selling point, too. I find it most luxurious to ‘eat in’ when traveling to a bustling city, especially on the night of arrival. It’s sort of a tradition that we always eat at the hotel on Day 1. The ‘Coquille d’Or’ dining room takes me back to stays at The Drake/Chicago – with murals that rivaled Bemelmann’s Bar and Bookbinder Soup. This looks like a beautiful home base while in Paris!
I love catching up and reading all the comments from ‘ your tribe’ ..
Such fun !
Preston, I bought that Perfect Moment down sweater because of you. I get stopped all the time. I wish I had bought another one. Thank You!
When border control pays attention to your clothing, you’re GOLD. What a compliment indeed! Thanks for sharing your trip pics. Looks glorious as always. xx
