The Hermès Picotin

Since my last post, the devastating fires broke out in LA. My husband is from Bel Air and his entire family is on evacuation alert. Friends have lost their homes, businesses, schools, and churches. Our hearts go out to everyone affected.

A chocolate brown Hermès Picotin Lock 26 Bag zoomed to the top of my wishlist when I spied it on the SS25 runway top right. However, there is nary a 26 in any of the three Hermès boutiques in Paris, nor have they had one in a while. I hope this changes with the multitude of Picotins in the spring show and I will check when I’m back in March. However, I picked up a black 22 and have worn it nonstop — it holds far more than it looks. The Picotin is less expensive when purchased new — the ones I’ve seen on resale sites are priced considerably higher. It’s not a waitlist item and is available in stores — I walked in and bought it then and there. My Picotin 22 cost less than the Bottega Jodie I bought for my daughter in London a few weeks ago…

  • I adore the Picotin and it has been at the top of my wishlist for quite some time. I was unaware of the 26 and it appears to be a beautiful “big bag” — practically a tote! Ann Mashburn’s Paola is a beautiful alternative for those who find Hermès out of budget.
Thank you for this distraction during the heartbreaking wildfires, I needed it.

  • How does the Picotin 22 compare in size to your much loved YSL bucket bag?

  • Similar in size, lighter, slouchier, and less than I paid for the Saint Laurent in NYC.

  • Cheers! The Picotin is definitely a winner. I’ve carried mine for years. I like it because it’s a very minimal design that quietly communicates the maker for those that find such things important. It does hold a lot, yet it’s lightweight, compared to a Kelly or Birkin. A great bag, for sure!

  • I can’t help but feel sadness for all those impacted with respect to the fires and am praying for everyone daily. I hope your family remains safe. I love this bag. I rarely carry mine so I will be bringing it out again.

  • I think the Picotin 22 is the perfect size! What color did you buy?

  • I wanted dark brown, but they only had red, etoupe, light blue, and black.

  • Thank you for your kind thoughts. My son and his family lost their “perfect little home” in the Palisades. Their daughter’s school burned down. It is mind-numbing watching them work through all of the decisions they are facing. Considering the beautiful Picotin seems like a distant luxury right now, but I still want one!

  • I love my Picotins 18 but I can’t use them regularly in London because of the open top/no shoulder strap. Great bag for me when I am travelling to Asia or resorts though.

  • Do you have a favorite bag with a top zipper ideal for travel?
