Last Licks
Preston, do you and your readers have any “last licks” for their winter clothes? Yesterday, I went to the Whitney with my older son and husband. I wanted to wear something more fun than I usually wore and pulled out a red, Ann Mashburn cashmere collared sweater I had bought in November and wore once in December. I loved the sweater but it felt too festive and bright to wear all the time (I usually wear navy and black.) I realized I had better get some wear out of it before the weather warms up. Do other people have winter clothing they’ve forgotten about that they are now determined to get wear out of before spring sets in?
Laura
Great question, Laura!
My last lick is this Carolina Herrera cape that I spied on the runway mid-February 2024, then purchased in August. I wore it only a handful of times before one of the coldest winters on record set in. I’d hoped a chunky sweater underneath would extend its wearability into the colder months, however, the freezing temps came early and only just recently abated. A spring coat is often joked about because it’s worn once, maybe twice, before it’s too warm. However, I intend to wear the cape as often as possible in the coming weeks.
I am sure many readers have overlooked winter items they are pulling out before it’s too warm to wear them.
Oh Preston ! Once again you have given me an idea I Imissed , I love white jeans year round but in the winter I always pair them with black . They are perfect with grey !
Thank you thank you dear friend ! xoBrooke
The grey cape with white jeans is so chic and perfect for transitioning to spring! “Last Licks” inspired me to pull out my bright green cashmere sweater that I wore once during the holidays. It’s perfect for St Patrick’s day.
Preston, this is great! It reminds me of an older post.
Please do another “Show and Tell” post.
I loved hearing from all your readers and the tips they shared!
Thanks,
Beth
Hi Preston, one of my fail safe tips for getting the most out of lighter coats/capes is to buy a uniqlo ultralight puffer vest (or jacket) in a similar colour and wear them underneath! They hardly add any bulk but provide a critical buffer layer for added warmth. I have them in multiple colours/shapes and it allows me to wear my wool coats throughout the full winter season here in London!
Hi Hannah, I do the very same thing and posted on it! xp
I plan to wear my capes and the Chloe clogs from next month. Best for spring and fall in London.
For a baptism family weekend at the end of February, I pulled out a favorite wool coat I hadn’t worn all winter. It’s a beautiful camel coat, a perfect ‘boy coat,’ as my Mother called them, beautifully made in Italy, purchased in the early nineties. The fabric, the color, the buttons, the collar, the hem length . . . it is without question the best coat I have ever owned. It’s more Town than Country, although it would be right at home at Balmoral. I love posts like this and the opportunity to reflect on what we love to wear and why.
I’ve just pulled out my “Christmas red” Agnes b sweater for a last hurrah ( although it’s still effing freezing in London)
I am wearing my Khaite sweaters and these APC derbies that I am in love with lately.
Love. Need. Want. Chicest Carolina Herrera should make this every season in a different color
So happy to see this post . I love your grey cape and am excited to put my white jeans back in rotation.
