On My Mind

Thinking About Spring

After reviewing my SS24 runway posts from last September, I’ve narrowed down my spring wishlist to this Chanel dress and a pair of either black Saint Laurent or green Prada satin slides bottom right. These are can’t-wait-to-wear items.

While I Wait For Spring

In the meantime, I’ve been wearing some oldies but goodies. The Valentino coat has been out and about, Birkins, too, and my mother’s choker and sister’s short double strand of pearls have seen the light of day. Years ago, my sister gave me a gorgeous long single strand of pearls. I rarely wore it, so last summer I had the single strand restrung into the short double strand necklace above.

  • I couldn’t agree more with your Spring wish list, I too purchased the green, square toe mules. I was so sad to return them as they were unbearable to wear. The fashion gods were against me this spring. I hope you have better luck.

    Best, Toni

  • I love a good caftan and I love Chanel and the pockets are divine! But I hate that the wrong side of the fabric is so evident in the pictured garment.
Every year I long for a coat in a beautiful spring color, like the Chanel coats often shown in the couture collections…time to take that plunge! I hate continuing to wear my black, grey, brown colored coats in the spring. Your white coat inspires me!

  • Hi! I loved the idea of satin. Can you share on how you will style and wear them? I assume it’s not just nighttime and “fancy”events.

  • The coat is perfection. They don’t make ’em like that anymore!!!

  • The pearls are lovely. Would you share how the pearls can be worn day to day? I have similar pearls from my corporate days, so struggle with how to wear in a casual manner.

  • Preston, I think your double strand pearls are absolutely beautiful.! Something about two strands fitting close to the neck feels extremely modern (as opposed to multiple mixed strands). Something about a double matching strand is more unexpected and crisp. In the final scene of ‘Something’s Gotta Give,’ Diane Keaton wears a double strand of pearls with a Chanel-ish tweed jacket and skirt.

  • Thank you, Paula. The double strand makes every outfit feel pulled together.

  • My Nana left me a short pearl necklace and I’m ashamed to say I lost it along the way. Youth.
Also love a caftan although Chanel is beyond me so will be looking for a similar pattern for my dressmaker.
Favourite thing of the post is your coat! So love that shape.
