Packing Procrastination

We head to Paris soon for a month and I cannot motivate myself to pack. I’ve decided to take items that rarely get worn, with a few go-tos thrown in. My reasoning is, if I don’t wear it in Paris, where will I? I ordered the Phoebe Philo ballet flats for the trip, but I received, erroneously, a leather hat and leather wrap skirt. Sadly, the flats were sent to someone else. On the bright side, they’re one less thing to pack! Only one pair of winter boots and a parka for a one-night trip to Tromsø, Norway to see the northern lights. Seeing the Aurora Borealis in Tromsø is my one and only bucket list item and I am on top of the world — I will be, literally! Tromsø is above the arctic circle and a prime viewing location. March 25 is a full moon, which is said to be ideal. Here’s to clear skies!

In the meantime, I’m going to ignore packing and go preview the Whitney Biennial and see the Klimt Landscapes exhibition at Neue Gallerie.

Celine: Capes & Coats

The Celine FW24 collection film was released yesterday and there are some gorgeous capes and coats. I have two Hedi Slimane pea coats — a grey Saint Laurent and a black Celine — and I cherish both. They are beautifully cut and timeless. Since I’m on a bit of a cape binge, the one above right caught my eye — love the hood. And the coats below are perfection. In a nod to the Swinging Sixties theme, I’m wearing my triple strand of pearls as I write this.

A lot of items in the fall collections dovetail nicely with my personal style. My penchant for refined and elevated daywear — and a pulled together sensibility — will be rewarded with an abundance of options come fall. Refined, elevated, sophisticated and feminine seem to have superseded restrained (read boring) quiet luxury – hurrah!

Leaning Into Lipstick

Last evening my très chic friend Géraldine gave me a YSL Rouge Volupté Shine Lipstick Baume #44 Nude Lavalliere. Géraldine is brunette and 20 years my junior, yet the shade suits us both. Perhaps it suits many since it’s a lip conditioner, not an opaque lipstick. Regardless, it is lovely, and an even lovelier gift that I will happily wear as I am currently leaning into lip color.

List Topper: A Cape

One thing I know for sure is that I will buy the Carolina Herrera FW24 grey cape. And, perhaps for spring, the Loro Piana cape and matching skirt in Harper’s Bazaar France. Mrs. Prada’s cape suit is the pinnacle of chic and I hope she reissues a version of it at some point.

Just What I Need

Phoebe Philo dropped the first delivery of her second edit this morning and I snapped up these flats. Just what I need.

Styling Tip Courtesy Of Chanel & Louis Vuitton

A number of beautiful slip dresses are pushed to the back of my closet; I only wear them in the summer. I had an ‘aha’ moment yesterday when I saw these FW24 looks at Chanel left and Louis Vuitton right. A trim, fine gauge knit layered underneath would make a slip dress wearable all year round.

Miu Miu: Modern Ladylike

There is so much in the Miu Miu FW24 collection that I reviewed the images a number of times before I put this post together. Mrs. Prada told WWD that this is a collection of “(c)lassic items from all moments — and you can choose the child, you can choose the lady.” I love seeing updated versions of some of my beloved Miu Miu pieces, like the floor-sweeping black coat and short jackets. Little black dresses, pearls, fur (shearling) coats, and pencil skirts with matching jackets — through Miuccia’s lens — are back in the Prada universe.

Chanel: It’s In The Details

When I spied the chain belt tied with a bow in the Chanel FW24 collection this morning, my heart skipped a beat. I have the 2019 iteration with grosgrain ribbon woven through the links. The larger, simple chain is super chic. The blouson-ish top of this coat places it firmly on my fall wish list.

Hermès & The Row

The dresses with matching scarves and an obi style sash belt were, for me, the highlight of the Hermès FW24 collection. I’d wear both until the end of time.

The Row’s request that show attendees refrain from taking pictures was not honored by all and images were posted moments after the models walked the finale. However, The Row’s own imagery is stunning — far better than the grainy snaps and reels — and well worth the wait to view the Winter 2024 collection.

A Touch Of White

We are on the cusp of spring and white accessories brighten my now tired and dreary winter uniform. I’ve pulled out my Gucci 1955 bag and Dior pumps and have been wearing them with grey and brown. Dior reissued the Boy Slingbacks for SS24, a style from the PF20 collection that arrived in stores while the world was in lockdown. I bought four pairs from that overlooked collection — two black kitten-heels and the pumps in both black and cream — I’m a huge fan of broguing. Mine do not have the Christian Dior logo across the instep, which I prefer. Even though white tights looked great in the Chanel couture show, they’re not for me.
